Front office blew it. Not the pick, they blew the trade

Now I don’t really care about the fact they traded down with the eagles and we gotta face deshaun Jackson 2.0 twice a year again. That prob woulda happened anyways with the giants right behind us and the eagles at 12 anyways, he was going to be in our division.
The obvious problem is not trading down with the bears and getting a first rounder next year. The bears are in limbo and fields might be able to make them a winner and fast but I still think it could all go south in Chicago this year and they could end up drafting in the top 10 next year and gained a 4th that coulda allowed us a chance to move up into the teens again and still have gotten parson or even Collins if Micah was gone. I’m jealous at what NYG did though I’m not about the player they selected. Even coulda gotten darrisaw at 20.

Maybe they didn't offer us a trade. The Cowboys don't have time when they're on the clock to call every team in the league to see if they want the pick. If someone calls, they can trade. Moving back to 20 would also have taken you out of the running on any of the first round graded talent. And if Chicago improves, you probably get a mid 20s pick next year. I'm good with what they did

Already covered all this with trading down with the Bears.

The Cowboys made a good trade. Even came out ahead on points. Additionally they got the same player at 12 they would have got at 10 AND picked up the 84th pick in the process.

Chicago is in Limbo? They had a .500 record, with Mitch Turbisky and Nick Foles rotating at QB. Do you really think either Andy Dalton or Justin Fields can be WORSE than those two? Did you watch Chicago play?

Sorry forget about just driving the bus. Chicago would improve just by having a QB, that doesn't keeps the bus in the ditch constantly....

Again, do we know Dallas passed on the Bears? All I've seen are assumptions on this board. We know the Eagles called.

Jerry is also pushing 80 years old. Picks in next year's draft don't interest him as much as they do younger fans, even if they were offered.

1) So we know we were offered the same thing?
2) we aren't getting a player like Parsons at #20
3) a 3 this year is kind of treated like a a 2 next year, which means a 1 next year is similar to a 2 this year. So Micah and a 3 vs pick #20 and a 2? I'm happy with what we did. But then again, I'm hoping to not suck this year.

Desean Jackson is a bad comparison to DeVonta Smith.

Smith won't be burning too many deep like DJax did. He can however make guys eat air with his moves pre and post catch.

So, drop 10 spots and potentially lose they guys they had high on their draft boards?

TBD how this actually pans out but if the team and scouts wanted Parsons then I think they did fine only dropping to 12.

After moaning about this for the last 12 hours, there are definitely a few ways to look at it.

In the end, like every other draft move, it's going to take time to assess.

But the idea that Chicago made a deal for a QB at 11 and never bothered to call the team holding the 10th pick is absurd logic.

I've still yet to see a single source saying it was offered to us and we declined.

My bet is they never bothered to call us because we were in no danger of taking him. They could move to 11 and pay the pick a bit cheaper.

If they wanted a player with a first round grade this year, they made the right call.

If that pick ends up like a Houston/Miami deal and the Giants flip it for draft capital that changes their team, that's something else.

Bottom line is Parsons was a solid pick, but that trade has to be tied to it upon reassessment in a few years.

No one is ever convincing me Chicago didn't call.

Jerry will confirm it after the draft.

He always wants to say...."our pick was SO great that we turned down many great offers, etc...."

We've all seen the movie.

100% correct. We were never going to take a QB— and Chi knew it. The only way to get that trade was if NE wanted to jump up to 10 and there was a bidding war for Fields and Chi had to offer more to get their guy

They were looking to trade up for what they consider to be a franchise QB.

They should have called EVERYONE above them.

Plus we are talking about the first only. They paid more than that.

They were going to face him twice a year regardless. If the Eagles didn't take him, the Giants would have.

To move down 2 spots, still get your guy and add a third is a no brainer.
I agree. We get good players in the 3rd. Dont we have 3 picks in the 3rd.

Wait so the GIANTS were a threat to take a QB?

I'm not following your logic.
