Quinn is sticking his neck out quickly. And this team is giving significant input to a guy who has never coached a single game for this franchise.
After what just happened with Nolan, you would think they want to draft players who fit their scheme.

How can that possibly be your biggest takeaway?

The scouts spent a year making the board and our front office let the coordinator who has been here a month make the pick instead.

It’s bad process even if the results work out and in the Cowboys case, the results are usually bad too.

Because listening to internet experts we were to believe that they reached badly when in fact that had the player rated at that spot. Maybe they are wrong but according to their scouts, they simply took a player where he was rated. Yes, there was a higher rated player in their board but they had already taken a player at that spot. They went for the bigger need as viewed by the DC. Fortunately they still got the other player so nothing hurt. Drafting isn’t a one size fits all deal with every pick. You have to fly by the seat of your pants sometimes and go off script.

Chill dude you'll have a stroke. All I have to say is your bolded statement says it all. Have a good day.

That just shows your willfully ignorant. Seriously, get off a sports message board if you honestly think someone has to have coached or scouted before to be able to make it player personnel. Was Stephen Jones involved in either? He’s our Director of Player personnel. A large group in the league grew up in football and didn’t have either. The fact that you think so...for any sport is sad. Especially since both guys I mentioned have either been offered jobs or are used in NFL circles. Move to a Pokémon message board or something. And I’m chill. Just trying to educate people that there is a niche group of analysts that do as much as most scouts and aren’t just making up opinions on TV.

Everybody on the board ranted that they wanted an aggressive young corner from South Carolina and we got him, what are you guys complaining about?

Oh, you were talking about Horn. Oops.

In all seriousness, I like Mukuamu and I think he becomes a significant contributor to the team. This highlight video is in Spanish, and yeah I know that you can make an amazing reel for almost any player, but he looks like he could be a playmaker..

Again, quit with the name calling and childish behavior. Stephen doesn’t pick players. He goes by what the scouts and coaches say.

Meanwhile at the Kentucky Derby, Rodgers looks like he's there to arrest Brady!

It’s not childish. I’m just telling you what’s truth after you threw out that all these guys are just talking heads following what they hear at ESPN. False. Just like it’s false that player personnel people in any sport have to have come from that discipline. Stephen Jones title is Director of Player Personnel. Jerry is a GM. Cosell has been with NFL Films and doing what he does since 1984. So 36 years in a business where all your doing and watching film and talking with league personnel people probably gives you a pretty good idea what your doing. Have a nice evening!

Yes it was childish. None of these media talking heads have a clue about these players. How can they without interviewing them, they’re coaches or their teammates? How could they having never played in the NFL or at all? They can’t and the fact you take them as gospel says a lot.

Never said I took it as gospel. But they are more than talking heads and know way more that you or me and many in the league. It’s strange that you can’t accept this when people in the league wanted to hire them. These are facts. Brugler follows kids from high school up. He knows them. That’s why teams contact him.Again, you can say it’s childish but it’s willfully ignorant to ignore it and pretend all of the things you are saying about interviews and never playing in the league etc. Look up the phrase. You are deciding in bad faith not to become informed. This happens in baseball and basketball too. It’s why there are so many moneyball guys out there that never played the sport.

Another example is Lance Zierlein out of Houston and on the NFL Network. His Dad was an Oline coach in the NFL...Steelers and Az. He watched film with him. Then he started watching film himself. He’s a radio host but since 2015 writes 500 draft reports a year. He never played or coached or scouted but was exposed to it.

It’s not really an insult. Just means you don’t want to learn. Cool by me. I don’t know everything and certainly try and learn from people on here about things I’m clueless about like the cap and things like that. I just think some of these guys have some real game.

There you go with the insults again. That’s pretty low thing to say.

On my way into work this morning they confirmed our 3rd round CB was absolutely a Quinn pick. The scouts were arguing for Cox, who was higher on the board. We got lucky in that he dropped to round 4.

The dynamic in the draft room is often discussed here so I thought it was interesting to confirm (supposedly) what was is actually happening in the war room. From everything I've heard and read it's a collaborative effort. Although they stick to the board for the most part, they will deviate if a coach feels strongly and puts together a case.

Also had the pleasure of listening to the DB Mukuamu interview and he's a really impressive kid. It wouldn't suprise me to see him stick in this league. My apologies if this has already been covered.

I really am worried when i find people who still listen/read BTB.

Dude it’s not an insult I’m sure you’re a great guy and we’d enjoy a beer talking Cowboys. I just think people get too entrenched in views here where they dig in their heels on stuff. Sorry if it offended you. Cheers

Lol. There are about half a dozen different Cowboys podcasts (that update regularly) and I listen to all of them. BTB brings on Tony Casillas and other guests all the time. They also interview current players and rookies. It's actually a pretty entertaining podcast.

If you have any better, please share.
