Best CB on the board IMO.
Also it was reported they were trying to trade up at the first of the day and most just thought it was for the TCU Corner but I think it was for Joseph or Campbell.
It was for Campbell. Once he went off the board pretty quickly in the 2nd round, Dallas was content to sit tight and let Joseph fall to them at 44.

They weren’t trying to get a FS in the second round. They didn’t get one in the first so they knew they needed to come out of the second with a CB.

The value of Joseph is higher to this team than any FS in this draft.

What do you think of Cambpell? I'm not a fan at all. Joseph looks like a much better player to me..Cambpell is the safer pick to keep his head on straight, so maybe that was their thinking

Yes......there was a time many here favored Farley at 10. Why...... coz we need CB with speed opposite of Diggs. Joseph gives us that w/o the injury risk and the best part, we selected a day-one starting LBer at 10.

I can care less about the kid's so-called second career as a rapper. Hell, Tony Romo had one as a golfer never heard one complaint. As long as the kid takes care of business on Sunday, cool by me.

You never heard one complaint about Romo golfing? Did you ignore the board back then?

I agree. I didn’t like Campbell as much as Joseph but I guess the team did. IMO he doesn’t have the ball skills that Joseph has but maybe the team saw a reason for that and thought they could correct it. I don’t know.

Campbell, to my eyes, didn’t look as fluid and coordinated as Joseph, who is as smooth and athletic a corner as you will find. Seriously. Watching Joseph, it is easy to see that he will be a superior athlete to many of the WR’s that he’ll be covering. Everything looks easy for him and he is always in phase with the receiver.

Campbell has a little more length though, so my guess is that the team was attracted to that over Joseph. Another team picking him might have saved Dallas from itself though… because I think Joseph is going to be the better pro, easily.

I’ll tell you, there isn’t a corner that was in this draft that looks as fluid and smooth as Joseph. Maybe Farley (I don’t think so though) but he’s had too many injuries and frankly, doesn’t have a whole lot more experience than Joseph. Watching Joseph, you just think, man… now that’s an NFL cornerback.

Horn is a really good athlete but Joseph seems a little more in-synch with his movements and just looks like the better athlete in coverage. Horn has the experience though and is more polished. They’re both really aggressive and physical.

Surtain isn’t the athlete that Joseph is, for sure but he’s so experienced and fundamentally sound that you’d have to take him over Joseph, I think. However, Joseph could easily and quickly be the better pro CB because he’s so gifted athletically.

I was thrilled to see the team wasn’t scared off of Joseph because of his experience. I was afraid they would be.

They said they wanted to add speed, attitude and aggression to the defense and boy, did they ever add it in Parsons and Joseph. Those two guy ratchet up all of that by several notches. They can consider that mission accomplished.

Yes, I'm glad but it's my hope that Kelvin keeps his nose clean. At the same time, I have no complaints about his talent, either. I think he has all the talent it takes to excel if he's simply able to stay out of trouble. He lacks the development of Surtain but that should eventually come with time and some sound coaching to aid his cause. There's really no point in having doubts about what might happen. We'll merely have to trust those in charge of Joseph's training and development to serve him well. Of course, keeping his nose clean is strictly up to he, himself.

I personally would have preferred the slight move up to get Moehrig to fix a position we've been neglecting for the longest, but talentwise, Kelvin Joseph has it, but yet again, we spend a 2nd rounder on a guy who could have availability problems.

One of the reasons our defense never really does anything is that so many of the 2nd rounders are rarely on the field. There's hardly ever any consistency there from guys who should be big contributors. Randy Gregory (weed), Sean Lee (injury), Trystan Hill (work ethic concerns) and even Jaylon Smith (injury) when he first got in the league. Then, we can get into the 1st rounders who have availability problems like LVE... then how about those 1st rounders who aren't even on the team anymore like Taco and Byron Jones? Is it an wonder this defense is consistently disappointing when we don't invest in great players in FA and most of the 1st or 2nd rounders are either unavailable or on another team?

Then we can apply that same logic to free agency when he get guys like Greg Hardy, Aldon Smith, Quinn, etc.

If Bossman Phat is too concerned with rapping and smoking weed and never gets established on the field, that's yet another 2nd rounder down the drain... and it's not only about that one particular player... think about having NUMEROUS 2nd rounders who are actually on the field and contributing. There's a reason other teams let these guys fall and yet we keep drafting these guys over and over and our defense is never consistent because these guys keep coming off the field.

I really think his back injury scared teams off.

According to the Jones, Moehrig wasn’t the pick even if he were still on the board

Yeah I think that's because we missed on CB in round 1. They felt they had to go CB there. The medicals on Kazee must've made them comfortable for this year.

So he got suspended for a game at LSU for violating team rules. Then transferred to Kentucky where Stoops praised him quite a bit. He made the decision that he wanted to sit and not risk injury, in what I believe was the final game, not positive. Stoops told him he couldn't just have him standing around because it sends the wrong message. Then he was encouraged to opt out and prepare for the draft. Stoops really did talk positively about him and his character though.

Honestly it doesn't sound like a big deal to me, BUT we obviously want player who want to play. He will only be 20 when the season kicks off so hopefully as he matures everything will fall in line and he becomes a productive player for us.

Just bad luck for the kid. Join two programs and both coaching staffs suck. No such problem here.

Yep, it was interesting that the word was 'players' and coaches didnt get on with him when the evidence actually points to just the hire/fire coaches. How many of these coaches are "do as i say" authoritarian figures who just want to dictate the players every move.

For me I dont care if Joseph goes on the field with a mic and gets to play a live set at half time so long as he helps increase our turnovers.

Yep, spot on. Possibly also thought that a lot (granted not all) of Moehrig's value came in his aggressive slot and SS play. It's a toss up and I suppose Quinn/McC look at what we're trying to achieve (deep coverage) and who helps us best in that aspect.

There's a lot of picking players to fit schemes....which with our 2020 defense I kind of support.

Yeah, you either end up looking like a genius or out of a job with that tactic.

I support it too, kind of.

There are so many red flags it looks like one of those massive N. Korean military parades.

Youngest player drafted this year was focused on a rap career, played in only 15 college games, transferred from one school to another after suspension, .opted out before the end of the season in 2020....I hope he is focused on football and changes his attitude before showing up. off field issues and attude problems are absolutely the last thing the Cowboys need.

All those red flags and he still goes early 2nd round. Actually we can look at his growing up as a positive....he's not going to be blinded by fame and hanger's on, he's already in that environment. Look at how many players heads have been turned by fame and money out of college.

From his interview it sounds as if we spoke to him at length, which would show some genuine interest especially with the expectation we'd get Surtain/Horn in 1st Round.

Then again i'm of the opinion that I dont much care about (no-illegal) personal life so long as they perform on Sunday.

Oh yea it's a gamble but at least it's not like Nolan's approach trying to get players to play schemes do things that they just cant do.

Yup, the old square peg in a round hole is about the worst possible thing to have to endure during a season.

It's funny because either way the team will be criticized.

I feel like we are due to hit on a couple stud defenders. I thought this year's events would benefit Dallas because I actually believe we have a better scouting department than most teams. I also expected to see a wide spread difference in player values. No combine, opt outs and short seasons yield some outside the box selections.

You never heard one complaint about Romo golfing? Did you ignore the board back then?

To be honest, I was on another board......again never heard/read complaints there. Romo's desire to become a pro golfer was no secret but as with any professional commitment, extensive practice is required. I remember starting a thread questioning if/how this would impact his back long-term as relates to the QB position. I was absolutely lit up .......called a hater, who no idea what I was talking about.
