Are they running the 34

No, it's the Seattle 4-3 over and 4-3 under base (plus Bear) which looks a lot like a 3-4. Then primarily nickel 4-2.

The NT and 5T/DE will actually 2-gap which is what really makes it different than what we've seen here.

It's been widely reported that "base" is going to be 3-4, but every defense in the league is primarily in nickel.

4-3 vs. 3-4 doesn't matter.

I think the defense will have more linebackers on the field then defensive linemen. I bet the only steady defensive linemen will be Tank and Urban. I also consider Gregory and Basham linebackers. I just don’t see a lineup where Hill and Gallimore are out there together unless it is a straight up run down.

it matters. I want the 2 gap under.
No it doesn't. It's 10-15 plays a game, and the number of snaps where the differences between those alignments matters is probably less than half of that.

We all have to understand DLaw is not going to get a lot of sacks in the defense. That doesn’t mean he’s not going to be productive though.

I think this is mostly correct. I do think Quinn is looking to evolve the scheme a little to combat option reads. At least he talked about doing that this time last year at Atlanta.

I think the evolution involves the 3T having some two-gap responsibilities (Odigy?) but I’d need to do a bit of a deep dive to guess at what he’s planning.

Exactly. It's not new but for some reason, your average Cowboys football fan doesn't seem to be familiar with this scheme.

Parsons on the edge and bohannon at NT? Plus all the DEs they got are the proto DE with 34+ arms. This class reminds me of Ware, Spears, and Canty.

Quinn said as much in his recent press conference:

New defensive coordinator Dan Quinn says the #Cowboys defense will be a mix of 3-4 and 4-3. “Much of the defense nowadays is played out of a nickel front and that’s more of four down (lineman) of the way you play. As far as in the base packages go it will look more like a 3-4.”

And looking at the free agent signings and draft picks' attributes, it all adds up to just that, and makes much more sense than it did before.

Watkins and Urban are both 3-4 DE types, as are Odighizuwa and Golston fit that profile as well. Add in a huge investment in more linebackers and Bohanna as a true 3-4 nose tackle and things become pretty clear.

The LDE is going to two gap. Similar to a 3-4 DE. He can't just pin his ears back and get after the QB.

We'll see, I think they'll switch it up, but I except to see 1 gap fronts that will give him opportunities.
