It’s possible that Parsons was rated higher then the corners on the Cowboys board but if Surtain/Horne were at 10 they would have been the pick. I also believe the Cowboys would have drafted Zaven Collins if the corners and Parsons were picked before 12. I am stunned the Giants passed on Parsons.

They are much better off taking Parsons at 12 and getting Joseph in the 2nd round. However, there is the risk factor with Joseph working out. If he is a legit playmaking starting CB, then its a home run with the first two picks.

Ian says he knew the cowboys were targeting Parsons 2 or 3 days before the draft but didn't report it b/c he didn't think it was news worthy. LMAO. He's so full of BS.

That said, I miss the live war room feed. If they didn't stupidly leak the draft board, you could still tell who liked what pick by the reactions around the table. It would have been interesting to see if they were high fiving or pounding the table when the Broncos picked Surtain.

They still took a gamble to trade back behind the Giants. Someone could have traded up to take Parsons.

They knew the Giants wanted Smith. When the Eagles traded up for him the Giants traded down and took another WR.

I was listening to Talking Cowboys and one of the ex players made a good point about the Cowboys drafting players to fit the scheme. He also stated you don’t need shut down corners because the key to the defense will be the pass rushers.

I agree. Parsons had to be rated above Horn and Surtain for the mere fact Sean Lee had just retired, thus leaving a huge hole right in the middle of our Defense and at the "leader" position of this Defense.

The gamble to trade down 2 spots with our division rival (Eagles) WHILE PICKING UP AN EXTRA 3RD ROUNDER worked out for the Cowboys, so us fans should be proud it did.

We see the results. Great gamble and win by the Cowboys front office.

Exactly, meanwhile some folks are concerned about what if scenarios. The FO has been inept over the last 25 years, however their draft decision making has improved and it will be interesting to see what the 2021 class produces.

Im really over the "fit the scheme" thing. Its all we heard with Marinelli and he passed over great football players for other guys he perceived as better for his scheme.

Problem with the Cowboys FO is what many have been saying for a while. They have NO plan. They just bring in coordinators every few years and get the guy what he likes. Then rinse and repeat.

Pitt is a great example of a plan. They are a 3-4 defense and that's it. They are always drafting guys for that defense because its always what they do. They pride themselves on defense.

I am more stunned the Giants passed on taking Slater. They lost their best lineman in the off-season and they did nothing to replace him.

Ian even went on to say Dallas would have traded back if Micah was gone but one of the CBs were available. Interesting....

I like it myself just because if true it means the team was really sold on dude and didn't just settle. I also really like Parsons and think we did well to get Joseph in the 2nd.

Would you rather have Parsons/Joseph or Surtain/Bolton? High ceiling vs high floor, I rather have Parsons/Joseph although they are more risky prospects, but have pro bowl potentials.

I was okay with the gamble myself because I thought Slater or Parsons would be a great pick and one had to be there.

That was the key to it in my opinion. They knew that the Eagles were taking the receiver so they’d still get either Parsons or Slater. Those were the last of the Top 10 talents.

Horn or Surtain would have been fine, but had we drafted either we would still be stuck with questions at LB. Similar to last year we took the most dynamic player in the first round except this time on Defense.

I’m wrong a lot but I said this days before the draft… There is too much CB smoke coming from Dallas. They want the CB’s gone before 10. Parsons is the Pick. Then Slater said it. I knew he was the target all along. He’s just what this defense needs.

If they did conceal their preference, I'd actually be happy about that. It seems like in recent years, they are more likely to telegraph the pick (e.g. LVE).

Who knows how plugged in he actually is but 2 weeks before the draft Broaddus said he was told Parsons was not a direction they were going. So no this wasn’t telegraphed.

You make a good point that I did not think of.:p:eek: The Giants offensive line is still bad. Slater should have been their pick.

Thats a great point and certainly an interesting conversation. Dallas clearly chose the higher risk / higher reward route. Now we wait to see if that pays off.

I had CB Kelvin Joseph as a 3rd round value, so I believe they over-reached 1 round too soon for him, but it was worth it since CB was a definite need for us. There weren't any better CBs left when the Cowboys took Joseph during the 44th pick early in the 2nd round, so I can understand why they took him when they did. Truly hope he turns out to be a good CB. We need him to be.
A 3rd is fair given the total picture. On talent alone (and I may overvalue him as an LSU fan lol) he's a 2nd easy. I hope it turns out for the best as well.

Hats off for calling it! I wanted Parsons all along but didn't think it was going to happen. I bought the CB smoke, glad to have apparently been wrong. Wont ever know for real since they were gone, but I agree, Parsons will be amazing under DQ!
