The Legend of Gilbert's Only NFL Start in Seven Years continues to grow. :muttley:

Well............it was a good one. And here is a guy that came in off the street with a few days to prepare. Not a legend, but certainly better than Denucci.

no mystery....hes just not that good or that special...

- he didn't have an exemplary college career

- 6th round draft choice

- on his 8th professional team (NFL and CFL)

- Played one game last year with a 72.6 QBR

journey man 3rd type of qb....lower grade backup quality...no mystery, hes just not that good.

And what was Daltons QBR last year? I would bet that Gilbert was higher.

It is a mystery why Gilbert is not getting any respect or a chance to play some .

A 6th round pick in the 2014 NFL draft,
The Cowboys are his seventh NFL team,
He's appeared in 7 regular season games,
He's made one NFL start.

It's not a mystery at all, and his one mediocre start has been overblown here because the defense and special teams actually showed up that day. In the end he threw a red zone pick and the Cowboys lost, barely completing over half of his passes on the day. He sucks.

The dilemma is a manufactured one in the minds of people that are not sold on Garrett Gilbert. I don't think that's the case with those that will be deciding who makes the 53-man roster. That doesn't mean there shouldn't be legit competition at training camp. It just means there is more faith at this time in Batman and Robbin than the other alleged QBs in the running. Oh, BTW... Dak and Garrett are Batman and Robbin.

After seeing what happened last year, I'm not as concerned about backup QB any longer. If the defense doesn't improve and Dak is out for an extended period it doesn't matter.

Having someone capable that can start a couple games and manage the game enough to let others around them win their matchups is all I can realistically expect. Perfectly fine rolling with Gilbert.
yep... if the starter goes down and will miss games at end of season, its all over. Dak out for 5 or more games, its all over. You should be drafting a young QB every 2-3 years in the 4th or later rounds just to have one on the cheap.

Does anyone here really think a backup QB matters for this team? Plenty were happy they got Dalton last year, how'd that work out?

They can't afford a vet, if a good one was available. How much can they allocate to a position they hope never takes the field?

If QB1 goes down and out, it's Draft Talk time.

Jeff Hostetler, Tony Romo, Tom Brady, Randall Cunningham, Jim Plunkett, Steve Young, Kurt Warner, Brett Favre, Colin Kapernick are reasons why you evaluate and fill the backup QB position
These guys were all developed.

The Cowboys don't do that

I agree with those who say if Dak goes down for an extended period again, it won't matter who the QB will be.

Cooper Rush seems like the reasonable choice as backup. He has several seasons with Moore and knows the offense by now. I do not get it. Is he all pro material? No. But he is serviceable.

Fat Mike moved back into the 7th for the Nooch. And they picked up GG when Dalton got the rona. Fat Mike has to choose Nooch or GG to keep developing. This is one of the better camp battles.

so tell me who in the NFL right now does a good job of consistently DEVELOPING that back up QB. In the past couple of years Big Ben, Rodgers, Peyton manning all went down and their team went from SB contender to a joke INSTANTLY.

Minshew has been a starter for more of his career than he has been a backup. He started 14 games in his rookie year because the starter went down. So if the guy has started more than not, is he a back up?
Fitzpatric is a starter in this league... period.
So the bears used a 1st rd pick so they could develop a back up?
Brisset was traded for to be a starter, not a back up.

Mullens is only legit back up on the list IMO. At his current age, if he doesnt start, I would call him the best "Back up," in the league..... but he is NOT a back up.
