Schultz is getting too much media attention. First the Dak comment, and now this. He's gonna jinx himself, get hurt in the 3rd preseason game, and end up on IR. We all know the moment we start to gain confidence in a player, the wheels come off. Pace yourself, Mr. Schultz. Pace yourself.
I wish this wasn't so accurate

You can't hold last year against Jarwin, he was injured. In training camp, Schultz has never outperformed Jarwin so this coming camp will be interesting. If only we played the Giants every game... Jarwin would have a HOF career.

What are you smoking? Training camp?

Jarwin Career - 59 catches for 684 yards
Shultz 2020- 65 catches 615 yards

All you people thinking Shultz and Jarwin are in a competition for who will start this year need to take a look at what they're each being paid. That'll tell you who the starter is. What's good is that Shultz is capable of performing should Jarwin not stay healthy again but please stop dreaming about Shultz usurping Jarwin to start. Not going to happen.

Not really - just a way to save 10 million in 22 and 23 if Schultz does the job. Jarwin was paid before Schultz had the good year.

You are looking at it from the wrong perspective - all depends on what they can sign Schultz for.

As I said, Jarwin is paid more THIS year and will start THIS year. They aren't going to bench Jarwin because they could go cheaper with Shutlz later. Even if they did, why put Schultz out there to have an even better year and thus demand MORE than Jarwin since he'd have produced more than Jarwin ever did. Plus, he'd have a better chance to produce well with Dak out there than the bums we did last year because Schultz' best games in terms of yardage, # of catches, and ypc all came with Dak before Dak went down. If you really want to retain Schultz instead of Jarwin, you don't put him out there so he can raise his asking price. Isn't this Schultz' contract year?

Big picture, my man. Big picture. I see ALL perspectives.

That's dirty pool and as you are always on the players side in negotiations, it should ruffle your feathers more than any other player team negotiations that you talk about. That mindset in owners and coaches build losers and out for me players. I hope they would not sit Schultz to lower his asking price, that's pretty poor management of a team!

I am on the side of the players but I also get business and know they can't always come out on top. Either way, I believe Jarwin is the better talent so that's not dirty. Again, the Cowboys are paying him as such and will want to get their money's worth. Schultz is going to have to offer a discount if he wants to stay to back up Jarwin and maybe the Cowboys promise him that he'll eventually be their starter. But if I'm Schultz, I'm not doing business based on promises and I'm going looking for the highest bidder with a competent QB after this season. That's also business.

Last year was Schultz real action catching the football of his career. He was third in receptions and played with 4 different QB’s. Amazing

He looks like a guy I would have a beer with at the pool. Shultz stepped up last year.

interesting.

in your scenario is he like just out of the pool and in need of a towel?

Great guy....good player...but he should NOT be the starter!!!
Well, there is no Travis Kelce on the team that would clearly put Schultz as the #2 guy, so the team has to choose from what it has. I think Jarwin may have the higher ceiling, but to date Schultz has proven more. Maybe that's only because of more opportunity, but that has to be seen, not just assumed.

Keep in mind the different situations though. It's a different scenario being the #2 TE, as Jarwin was with Witten on the team - it's much easier when you don't get game planned for and not being defended as the top TE option. Schultz performed as the every down TE.

Don't get me wrong though, I'm not saying Schultz is better. I think we have 2 solid TE options, at least from a receiving standpoint. I'm not sure either is that strong a blocker. But I do think it would be wrong to automatically assume Schultz is #2 on the depth chart because Jarwin is back. Schultz proved a worthy player last year, and Jarwin still needs to show what he can do in that kind of role.

Jarwin is a bit of a myth to me. He really has proven nothing. This is his year.
Tsk tsk. He got the contract from the Joneses.

He apparently has caught their keen eye for elite talent to make him the 19th highest paid at his position.

An underrated competitor, a real team player.

Dalton Schultz was the 3rd ranked TE in the league for receptions. That shouldn't be ignored.

I like Jarwin, of course, we have discussed his potential for seasons. However, what has he produced so far? This is not criticism, just a reality check.
There is always a reason for Jarwin, first it was witten, then it was no WR, then his knee. Oh forgot it was Witten again. This guy got second contract and fanboys for what two games of his career.
