Clearly this is true. Every year is different. The offense has the potential for big things, but staying healthy, and faster starts without last year's fumble problems will be vital
clearly true as well

HOWEVER,

this team has been full of potential for how many decades?? we seldom live up to hype..

i hope we do but banking on would be a bad bet..Ive learned my lesson now a few of these Preseason SB contender prediction's only to be left disappointed..

starting slow, meaning being average in the league. as mentioned so did Seattle. we were 17th, they were 15th.....so the game is a lot more involved than that.....having a defense that can get off the field helps the offense. if your defense doesn't get off the field then you can't dominate TOP, but most say the offense then should have managed it....which is going back to the original argument of all responsibility falling on the offense. the offense couldnt' dominate, given it became one dimentional becaue of defense, thus making it difficult to utilize the whole play book. meaning if you are forced to pass pass pass to win games, then you become one dimentional.

My main thing is: People should hold off on the anointing oil until the offense proves that they are a top offense in the league. It's kinda embarassing, having a bunch of homers each year proclaim superbowl, only to watch them come up with excuses later on. If the cowboys are a top offense, with should be seeing it through the course of the seasons and say wow that offense is dominating teams.

I don't worry much about hype - that's largely the media doing what it can to draw interest to their product. And I'm not particularly worried about decades ago. That doesn't really apply because it's not as if all Cowboy offenses have been the same over those decades.

But we have seen with our eyes that this team has offensive weapons and can score a lot of points, although granted they haven't been as consistent with that over the course of full games the last couple of years.

Ultimately though, I'm not guaranteeing anything. I see potential, and I think all of us should, but what counts is what we see on game days. The consistency from the opening kickoff to the final whistle is, in my mind, what will dictate if the team lives up to the potential.

No one's banking on it but some of us hope like hell for it. What I don't get is people trying to crap on that optimism.

No it's called crapping on optimism. Any post that is optimistic is immediately turned in to a crap show attacking the optimistic posters. Call them homers when all they're doing is looking at the positive side of the improvements going on. Some just can't handle it. One guy openly admits to rooting for the team to fail and other secretly do. The "realist" excuse is just what they say to try and make themselves feel better.

You talk about fear. You seem to fear a lack of control and relevancy. You seem to be attached to the notion that you have everything and everyone figured out—an explanation for everything, a black and white world, and you’re dead serious about it. You seem to need validation for your good guy/bad guy world, and bending others to your will.

Believe what you want, say what you want, and I’ll continue to do the same on my end, and nothing that you ever think, say or do will ever change what I think, say, or do, m’kay? Of course, I’ll probably chuckle occasionally at your arrogance, but otherwise...

Like I said, very little honorable people. I asked a yes or no question and you refuse to answer. Therefore, we know the answer. Busted! Lol. At least you have somewhat of a conscience and didn't wish to flat out lie. You weren't exactly honest either though, lol. Fear, buddy. Fear. Maybe next time you won't try to throw stones in a glass house, eh?

Who a team plays matters. The measuring stick this season will be the contenders they play and how they stack up.

True, they can't do anything about who they play but those games against contenders will be the ones that McC, his coaching staff and the QB are judged.

Opening on the road against the defending SB champ is a great way to open the season. Might as well find out in game 1 how much work is left to do.

I’ll continue to call out any “fan” who seems to favor snarking on positive fans over Cowboy success. Go on fearing what you can’t control!

You can do what you want. But you'll have been guilty of the same except instead of obvious trolling, yours was due to FEAR over someone else being able to cheer their team's win. Which does the fan handbook say is worse?

I’d put us 3rd-4th with potential to be 1st.

Kansas City and Tampa are still 1-2 for me
The Bucs and Chiefs are both better, imo.

To be fair the Cowboys have already been the best offense in the NFL when healthy over the past two seasons. So to that end it's not beyond the pale to wonder if they will be #1 overall again this year. Even if they're not actually #1 I don't doubt that they will be in the top 5 in both scoring and yards as long as not too many guys get hurt.. Especially the QB. It's fair to adjudge the Chiefs and Bucs to be better at this point but the fact remains that over the course of the first 5 games last year the Cowboys were better than both of them. The Cowboys scored more points and racked up more yards in that stretch than either the Bucs or the Chiefs. Who knows if they would have been able to keep it up if guys had not started dropping like flies but at least for that stretch they were superior. Ironically it's the running back everybody loves to hate who tips the scales in favor of the Cowboys IMHO. The receivers are as good as anyone.. the QB is either top 5 or top 10 depending on which media outlet you believe. The offensive line will be top 5 if it can stay healthy. The TE group is going to be very strong if Jarwin can make it all the way back and pair with a very solid Schultz. Zeke and Pollard are better than the tandems KC and Tampa roll out so this is not really as big a stretch as some are making it out to be. But again, rankings don't mean jack.. Win games.. however the F you have to do it.

What happens if the Cowboys defense shows any form of improvement? What happens if the Cowboys start playing with leads more often and start running the ball more effectively killing clock?

If Dallas is anywhere in the top 10 in offense and middle of the pack in defense - with a turnover ratio of +5 or higher, this team us winning 12 games at least.

In your eyes, maybe, but who cares about that except you?
