I don’t see much of an advantage to moving him. You finally have the depth at LB to really limit his snaps to keep him healthy. When healthy LVE really isn’t a bad player.

If he does regain his rookie form you set yourself up for a nice comp pick in return. I’d rather we let him play out the year instead of flipping him for round 4-6 type pick.
So you are saying if
make him the second-highest-paid LB and he will play harder and not get hurt again. He might even get in the best shape of his life too.
LVE said he was going to work real hard to be ready for 2021 season.

He still has a chance to get back on track. I wouldn't be in a big a hurry to move him either.
If
Most of our defensive and especially LB issues were directly related to the DL and more so the complicated Nolan defense. I'm tired of all this suddenly these guys (Jaylon and LVE) have no ability. Nolan put our defensive personnel in a no-win situation.
All excuses and reasons for today. I would rest Wolf Hunter for as long as it takes. If we can wait over a year for Jaylon..is LVE not even more worth waiting for. I think so.

I get the feeling the Cowboys are hoping the LVE stays healthy this year. Then they plan to have a LB crew of LVE, Parsons and Neal, with Cox ready to replace Neal in 2023.

I know. But part of that was due to his price going up due to being a FA. If a player kills it in the last year of his rookie deal you're going to pay top dollar for that player if you intend to keep him. There is no such thing as an honest offer in that situation. It's the highest offer.
What kills me about all of this worry about CB. We had Byron Jones and would not pay him. The.price of replacing him goes higher and higher to replace him.

This is all true, but I think LVE is a different situation because of the injury concern. It's harder to commit early because of the neck issues.

I think it’s two things:

  1. They want to see him prove it in terms of having a healthy season; and
  2. If he can prove #1 (and of course play well) they would offer him an extension much less AAV than what picking up his 5th year would have been.
Between he and Jaylon, I’ve got infinitely more confidence in LVE turning it around than I do Jaylon.

I also think LVE’s first half of the season is critical. If he’s healthy and plays well I think you’ll see the Cowboys try to extend him rather than him hot free agency and let the price jack up.
I think it wouls be similar to the extension Lee got after his rookie deal

They decline his 5th year deal to refuse the trade him? Maybe an extension is imminent
Possible. I dont think his future in Dallas has been completely written off. The 5th option is a big cap hit, and is 100% guarenteed now as opposed to guarenteed for injury.

I think they would be willing to bring him back, possibly even extending his before the season, if they can get more of a year to year struture from him

If they give him the extension right now, they can get him for a reasonable amount and just cut him later if it doesn’t work out. If they wait until he proves it this year, and he’s back to rookie form he could ask for the moon. It is a big risk. Top 5 QB money, top 5 DE money, top 5 RB money, top 5 G money, top 5 WR money, and then also top 5 LB money? It may be too rich
I think caveat would be possible outs. Lee's 2013 extention would likely be a template because it was essentially year to year. I think that's what the Cowboys are going to be looking for. If he has a big 2021 and wants real guarantees, I dont think the Cowboys will give that too him. I dont think most teams would, but its always possible especially if FO's enter a win now mode

Why?

He has shown terrific ability when healthy.

It was not his neck that shutdown his season in 2020. It was a broken collarbone.

The neck surgery that he had before the 2020 season was a "minimally invasive" type surgery.
- My understanding is that it was a nerve issue not a structural issue.
I agree with you, but nerve damage is every bit as painful as structural damage.

I agree there would be a difference in continuing to play with nerve damage, but the pain would be incredible.

To me I would make one phone call.
Pat's
LVE and Brown for Gilmore. If they say no then so be it.
Other then that 2nd rounder.
I would want Gilmore for only the fact he can teach

i think it’s also possible they’re fibbing about keeping him around to increase his market. They just drafted 2 replacements

I doubt it was a first or second
I also doubt it was a day 3 pick
If no one was offering more than that then no one is gonna give them a deal that gets you much of a comp pick
I follow your logic, but if the team think he will play well they are in control of bringing him back (potential tags), or have an inside track since he is already here....or the option of letting him go and getting probably a 4th.

That all goes away if traded.

If that offer is only a 3rd....then not worth it.

If the team thinks the player isn't going to perform well enough, then of course make the deal.

I dont think the team wants to lose its entire 2018 draft, and whichever of LVE or Gallup has the better season will likely be retained. I don't see how Williams earned a 2nd deal or how Armstrong fits.
