We always count on PROgression. No one ever considers REgression. Everyone is proclaiming 10+ sacks, etc. but he's a question mark, IMO. Can he be depended on for a full season, having never played one?
I mean, the guy's spent a lot of time in his life getting in his own way. I wouldn't be shocked if, faced with the chance to play his first full season with his first normal offseason and with it coinciding with a crucial contract year, he found a way to screw things up for himself or catch a bad break again.

I hope he has a monster year, so good that we start to worry he's pricing his way out of here. But I wouldn't be surprised if he disappoints again. Guy's in his 7th season since being drafted and he turns 29 during this season. Eventually you need to actually make good on your potential.

apparently he could could not function and do the same things as other nfl players, which is why he has spent most of his nfl career suspended. There had to be complete rule changes for him to be able to stay eligible and play in the nfl.

He ostracized himself with all the other functionally playing nfl players.

I like gregory, and i am happy he is back fully, and I think this will be a big year, but I don't get what your point is

Was suspended for weed, or a mental condition?

I’m pretty normal lol
He by his own admission is bipolar
It’s not like a fan diagnosed it
I’m know there are a few posters here who just haven’t been diagnosed yet but most people are not bipolar
No one is blaming him. I’m sure he’d rather not be but it is reality

I understand all of that. What I am saying is, how can anyone of us, make a determination, without proof? Using the terminology, " not like the rest of us " is a veiled assumption.

Randy is key to our season, as strange as that sounds. We don't have anyone else like him in the team. I hope they're careful with him in the offseason! If he gets hurt, we've got next to nothing at that position

Great another thread where the fact that a 28 year old has not done anything in his career is somehow viewed as a good thing.

I agree. Basham is fine for every fourth series or so, but it's not like he can step in and start and the defense doesn't miss a beat.

People forget that Gregory is a top 5-10 in any draft talent because they have been conditioned to not count on him because of the suspensions.

If he had been born ten years later he never would have had a problem with the league.

I'd be more worried about him after he signs a big deal....but for now...I expect a very big season.

No question in my mind that working out on your own is not the same as getting yourself football ready, when you are out on the field full speed and hitting. Training camp and pre season will get him football ready.

True, thus far his problems have resulted in a wasted career. He has a chance to salvage what is left, I hope he can

That's an "stat" you don't see too often considering he was drafted in 15.
Hopefully he makes the most of it

Should never have been drafted, and I said so at the time he was. Not even as a 7th rounder, if a guy can't stay off weed long enough to get through the draft process, he has issues that should keep him out of the league. Every draft pick is precious, this isn't the 60's with 12 rounds, where your last pick or two are total shots in the dark....

If healthy I expect he'll get a lot of work in both...

Bless Randy's heart. Catch lighting in a bottle young man. Find an even plane and rock the crap out of it. This is the experiment it want to see as an old man.

"IF" we can find him a balance that works for him. "It's his normal not yours or ours." Can he be the God given talent he was suppose to be.

Here we go! I'm Interested.

This is Randy Gregory's first (or at least his first since he's been a rookie) full off season since being drafted.

The patience for him is about to pay off.

Get ready for #94 this year.

He is going to be the difference maker this defense so desperately needs.

:starspin:
he always had potential and he showed it in limited times he played. but the problem as you stated is he never did it over course of a full season.

I hope he plays the whole season this year and not find another way to get suspended. he is now 28 years old. so he doesn't have too many years left....

I am quad polar LOL....well, joking aside, its a serious issue and bipolar brains sometimes work too hard and are too active and restless per se.....I guess he discovered pot slows his mind and relaxed him

I wouldn't say key to our season, he is a key player on the defense to help provide consistent pressure and play the LEO role in Quinn's defense. his play will go a long way towards how well this defense does. however, if we don't fix the rush defense, it won't matter much.

Has there ever been a Cowboys player that had the potential to be so great yet hasn't (so far) been?
