I don't really like hearing this. Niswander was amazing in his stint last year. Dude boomed the hell outta ball for us.. Declaring Fassell's "guy" the frontrunner at this point seems like maybe we're not really engaging in any real competition. And I don't like it.

Fassel did same with Zeurlein and Forbath.

Forbath outperformed Zeurlein IMO but Fassel familiarity and comfort with Zeurlein guaranteed him the spot.

I have said many times over the years that every position, even those with star players, should be up for competition every single year regardless of who they are or what they did in the past.

That said, I am wondering in this case if Fassel may be saying it publicly to let Niswander know that not showing up is hurting his chances.

Well, hard to compete for the coaches first impressions when you are home.

I see nothing wrong with Fassels comments since Hunter is at home.

Don't forget that Niswander was the Cowboys punter for the last 7-8 games last year. Fassell got to see plenty of him and what he saw should have made him excited to work with him this year. Dude averaged over 47 yards per punt over 8 games.. That's nothing to sneeze at.

I agree but we got competition now with Anger signed. Hunter is at home when Anger is out there.

I like Hunter and want him to win but he's doing himself no favors right now

Agreed. Anger I believe kicks off as well and would take some off of Greg. Could be why he has the leg up

I mean we know that's the direction this team seems to be in when it comes to coaching. They are hiring their friends. They are going to play their buddies or players they are familiar with. Players will not be rewarded based on play over friendship.

Doesn't seem like he has a chance though. To me it should be Niswander's job to lose and then let him lose it if Anger out plays him.

Dallas has not released him and it is up to him to go out and perform. A player can sit and pout about a comment like that or they can get out there and show they are better. I fully expect Niswander will get his chance to compete. Unless Cowboys just cut Niswander before camp he has a chance.
