Jaylon Smith's future this year is here, in whatever capacity DQ has for him. After this year, its hasta la vista, Baby....
I could see him in on some blitz packages as he's been pretty good at that. To be honest we haven't seen enough of him so far this year. He had 2 bad plays last week which isn't good for him but he was limited in snaps as he also had some decent plays. I'm sure the coaches have a good idea about his future and time will tell what that is.

good enough to get a Pro Bowl and lead the team in tackles the last 2 seasons.

Other than that...not good enough.

Jaylon will be traded by Cutdown Deadline.

I doubt it. While a new team wouldn't be on the books for his bonuses, his base salary is $7.2 million. That's a lot to absorb in addition to giving up a draft pick. Dallas also isn't going to cut him and absorb that hit.

It's very likely that he's gone next year because his base salary increases to $9.2 million. But it was always likely that we would either renegotiate or cut him. Muddying the waters, though, is the fact that Neal will be a free agent because he's on a one-year deal, LVE isn't under contract and we have no idea at this point if Cox is going to be ready for a bigger role. With what he's set to get paid in 2022, however, it might could pay first-year salaries for re-signing both Neal and LVE.

I agree with his Jaylon assessment but he also brings up Neal’s past issues. I just think Jerry has shown he’s willing to keep a guy as “insurance” because he’s one of his guys. That is my fear.

Great on Dak!

What do you see that literally nobody else does from Jaylon?

The writing is on the wall for Jaylon, in 3 inch high bold letters as Jimmy would say.
But I will be very surprised it happens this year. I think they have plans for him, as a spot or situational player.

Parsons looks to be very good. They have him the helmet ear piece that gets the calls from Quinn. Didn’t Jaylon used to have that?
LVE looking good. Neal is also, and Cox will come around. I think he takes over for Jaylon around mid year or so.

Rock I literally thought Jaylon would bounce back this year....his leg is toast, its unfotunate but can not be hidden..with that he is the worst LB on the roster..again I'm with you that if he was healthy he would be a top LB in the league..but he is not and they have to make the right call here.

This is similar to what I put just above. It’s not like we have a track record of “healthy LBs” year to year. So unless we just are way deeper than expected or get lucky I think he is around one more year just because he’s been here snd is a body.

If that's truly the case then the team is up creek with no paddle. They wouldn't even be able to trade him. Sounds like he's here taking up a roster spot for 1 more year.

I maybe missed it but at the end he says something about not being surprised if they cut him because of the resources aspect.

You don’t save cap space cutting him.

But at least you could keep one of the youngsters instead of exposing them to being picked up by another team. This is going to be one of those Jerry decisions. I'm just speculating on reports that he's been that bad in training camp.

I can't think the return for him would be anything really. A 6th rd pick maybe? 7th? Not sure what the thoughts around the league are about him but I can't imagine it's that complimentary.

you cant trade him, might as well stash him for maybe SP and goalline. He just can not have any outside responsibilities as the other team will find him and put him in the flat to get killed.
