Bad angle.. Not really on him that’s just a good design.
It's a good design based off the fact that Jaylon has nothing from side to side movement. He's a liability. Teams will do that all day on him. And when he cheats to the outside, teams will go off-guard and pitch it to the back and he'll run right off his inside shoulder twisting Jaylon's jock all over the place.

Quite possibly. Could be a surprise cut this year. I think the contract and the cap hit is about all that is holding them back on that one.

All they gotta do is restructure a contract and the cap hit won't mean anything. Cut him and raid Pittsburg's practice squad if we need a LB...

Smith, being a liability, being blocked nine yards down field, taking wrong angles, and losing to blocking dummies; was still the leading tackler on this football team last year. What does that say about the rest of the All-Stars? I don't like his play myself, but the constant pettiness and picking is ridiculous.

Doesn't matter he still needed to make the right read which he seldom does. He needed to follow the RB to the flats.

Are you sure that is Jaylon's assignment? It looks to me like he has the QB and LVE has the RB. If Jaylon commits to the RB, then the QB has an open running lane. It looks like LVE is running hard to got out to cover the RB. He is both late and slow. I could be wrong though.

One snap from Friday night & the issues of 2019 & 2020 are still there for Jaylon. Social media went berzerk w/a first quarter play from Friday night that showed Jayon in pretty lukewarm pursuit of Cards rb Edmonds on a short pass play. Jaylon was never a factor in stopping him. He needs to go, PERIOD!

It feels like Jerry has finally lifted the cloak of special protection from J Smooth. Thank goodness although most of the damage has already been done.

That's what he's supposed to do. Paid to do.
Damn, are we expected to praise a player making the most basic play?

but when it's a player that you like, it becomes praise...go figure

Do you really think every tweet posted on this forum is from the actual content creator?

The clip I posted was off Twitter, smh.
my bad, I took you as someone who create clips and post them a lot. I know there's someone here who create clips from games. thought that was you.

His first responsibility was to play the run, which is why he started toward the backfield. Once he saw it was a fake, he had to go from his momentum going toward the backfield to running with a back whose momentum was heading away from him. That's a tough ask.

Vander Esch also took a "false step" to his right because of the play-fake instead of running with the back, but I don't see many fans blaming him for that.

They both got fooled and tried to make a play on the play that they thought was happening instead of the play that happened. That's what that play is designed to do.

It's not getting fooled on the fake that is concerning (even though Jaylon is in much better position to see it's a fake before LVE). My concern is LVE covers 15 yards in the time it takes Jaylon to cover 5.

There are several factors looking at the video. One is that LVE is several yards farther back than Jaylon, so the back essentially has ground to make up in trying to outrun LVE to the sideline. Also, Jaylon holds his ground longer. LVE is already on the move to his left and practically behind Jaylon by the time Jaylon turns and runs. That could be because of lack of play recognition by Jaylon or it could because of Jaylon's responsibilities on the play.

I do think Jaylon showed a lack of lateral quickness once he realized what was happening, but he also was trying to go from zero to 60 with the back having momentum on his side and already have an edge on him going to the outside because of the fake.

You will never see me praise any player for making a basic play.

A player shouldn't receive praise for doing his job.
Now, if he were to snuff out that run and create a loss or turnover,
that would be a different story.

Your argument is weak.

Slightly off-topic but I feel compelled to mention those highlight films players (or fans) make of guys showing them make incredibly basic plays. The o-lineman trips and falls down and your guy gets a sack... that's a highlight?

An offensive lineman could trip, fall, check his Twitter, chug a beer and
still lay a textbook block on Jaylon Smith. Now, we're back on topic...

Not sure who "ya'll" is but, if you going to isolate that one play,
that's hardly what we call lateral movement.

He turned and ran. Essentially an angle tackle with a head start for Jaylon
being the distance between hashmarks.

I thought you were a high school coach. You should know this.

no he scraped down the line laterally then made tackle going forward, I don't know what you talking about, talk about knowing football, and no he didn't have a headstart.
