I know. It's frustrating to watch. Was it last year? I remember week 1 against the Rams. They were killing us on the edge. Good Lord, this is basic stuff.
Yep….Rams were right back at it again with the same stuff they been killing us with smh.

The worst part of the play was not getting beat at the LOS. It was the effort after he got beat. Effort is his biggest issue.
I mean it’s preseason…I don’t expect effort. I’m afraid it’s something much more than effort. That might be Jaylon’s effort….

Now ask yourself, how would have Jaylon approached/handled each of these same plays?

This is football’s version of WWJD?

Threads like this would be easier if yall would just say you don't like Jaylon and move along. Don't need one of these each week when we know that he's not the same player that got him the extension.

Doesn't matter he still needed to make the right read which he seldom does. He needed to follow the RB to the flats.

His first responsibility was to play the run, which is why he started toward the backfield. Once he saw it was a fake, he had to go from his momentum going toward the backfield to running with a back whose momentum was heading away from him. That's a tough ask.

Vander Esch also took a "false step" to his right because of the play-fake instead of running with the back, but I don't see many fans blaming him for that.

They both got fooled and tried to make a play on the play that they thought was happening instead of the play that happened. That's what that play is designed to do.

It's funny to me how fickle some fans are. Parsons will make one nice play and fans will fawn over him. Jaylon made a really nice play in this game and fans are focused on the one he didn't make.

I guess the narrative has been set on Smith while Parsons has the benefit of being new and fresh. I'm hoping that all of our linebackers will be successful and don't expect any of them to never get beat or fooled.

..Jaylon just has low instincts. Had a taken one step in his direction, he might have better chance tripping him up.

While that was a good play design, Jaylon just looked so slow and awkward in pursuit. I remember Micah Parsons chasing down a play similar to this on the opposite side of the field and he looked like he was shot out of a cannon. Smith looks like he has 25 pound weights on each foot.

I know people still call him "gimp" and things like that, but he was really good in 2018 and I wonder what happened to him. Was there another injury we don't know about?

You are right, but bad plays like this has been happening to Smith a lot. I really want him to silence all the critics and become the same linebacker he was in 2018. I don't like criticizing the guy at all because he's a great person with a tremendous work ethic. I like Jaylon Smith. But I don't like to see him play poorly.

He's overly criticized, though. He hasn't had a bad preseason so far, but if he makes one mistake (even it's a play where he might actually be assignment sound), it is used against him like it is here. It's confirmation bias.
