Gilbert is done.....he was benched after only two series. That's not confident in your backup needing as many snaps as possible. Rush at least knows the offense and spent 3 years as Dak's primary backup.
IMO it's either him, signing one from the final cuts or trade for Nick Foles

Big Week Ahead For The Backup QB Competition
Aug 22, 2021 at 12:30 AM

ARLINGTON, Texas – With one week left in preseason, has the Cowboys' backup quarterback competition gotten a little more interesting?

For the past month, Garrett Gilbert has consistently taken the majority of first-team reps while starter Dak Prescott incrementally works his way back from a shoulder strain. Gilbert started his third straight preseason game Saturday night at AT&T Stadium, but it was Cooper Rush – third on the depth chart throughout training camp – who delivered his best preseason performance yet in a 20-14 loss to the Houston Texans.

Taking over after two series, Rush completed 10 of 12 passes for two touchdowns and no interceptions in the final four drives of the first half – the only multi-touchdown game by a Cowboys quarterback this preseason – including a terrific 8-yard TD throw to Cedrick Wilson in the final two minutes before halftime

I would take a bus driver like Foles . . . he protects the ball and with this talent He would keep the team competitive

Hell, we might be able to get Andy Dalton back if we can make room for him with the cap. Rush right now is our backup, but they really need to upgrade the position.

Foles might be nice but if Dallas makes a trade then it would be for Dalton. Chicago would take a $15 million cap hit to trade Foles and that would mean some restructuring for them with other guys. Dalton on the other hand is only a $5 million cap hit. Also from a Dallas point, Dalton already knows the play book. Foles also a better mentor for Justin Fields than Dalton. Unless Dallas is willing to give up a 1st or 2nd for Foles, it ain't happening.

Yea I"m hearing they are not happy with Dalton at all........

Rush for backup!

This Rush tho: If Dak goes down, we forfeit and a concert breaks out!!

I don't know that I would want to hand the team to rush but he has certainly shown he's the best backup option on our team and worthy of at least one more year on the roster....I think we have to sign a backup this week given that dak is still iffy with the injury

Chicago needs to keep Dalton so we can get a 4th round comp pick. :muttley:
Otherwise we get none. Last I heard Nagy said Andy was still their starter.

I would wait for the waiver wire. They do not have the cap space, supposedly to trade and pay a vet back up QB.
However they can get a much better QB from waivers than what they have now.

I am all in on Foles.

Have to do something, I don't think anyone would be confident in Cooper Rush needing to win a game.

I'm not sure they will until they HAVE TO ( think they ride with Coop or Gilbert)......what I see is them waiting until Dak actually goes down with a significant injury that will cost us a few games, then scan their shortlist of guys available via free agents or trade.

I mean they drafted Fields in the first. They aren’t going to win the division as Rodgers still owns.

I would start Fields and let him learn. Dalton isn’t going to do anything for them

LOL.....they should have called one of us. We would have told them all they need to know about Andy and saved $10M.

Interesting take .......I seriously doubt ALL three are on their roster by the first game. Based on what you're saying it's Dalton, not Foles who's likely cut?????

Trubisky might be better than Dalton, Foles, and Fields. That would be hilarious. If it turns out Trubisky is the best of that bunch, Chicago is really cursed at the QB position.
The Windy City needs to play in a Dome. . . The Fog Bowl is still the craziest game I ever saw

I didn’t even realize the Bears had Foles and Dalton. I forgot they got Foles last year to compete with Trubisky. So why did they get Dalton when they already had Foles and were planning on drafting a QB early? Seems obvious they would’ve found themselves in a position where they need to offload an overpaid veteran QB.
