QB backup options: Rush, waiver wire or trade for Foles

Foles might be nice but if Dallas makes a trade then it would be for Dalton. Chicago would take a $15 million cap hit to trade Foles and that would mean some restructuring for them with other guys. Dalton on the other hand is only a $5 million cap hit. Also from a Dallas point, Dalton already knows the play book. Foles also a better mentor for Justin Fields than Dalton. Unless Dallas is willing to give up a 1st or 2nd for Foles, it ain't happening.

No one in the league would give up a 1st or 2nd for Foles. Maybe a 4th or 5th at most. He's a 3rd String qb in Chicago

No way. Dak’s contract clearly states that there will be no quality QB backups that could pose a threat to his reign of mediocrity

We must keep only scrubs at the backup Qb position so the team can’t reach the 8-8 record that comes with a 40 million dollar player if said player goes down......yet again

I didn’t even realize the Bears had Foles and Dalton. I forgot they got Foles last year to compete with Trubisky. So why did they get Dalton when they already had Foles and were planning on drafting a QB early? Seems obvious they would’ve found themselves in a position where they need to offload an overpaid veteran QB.

They weren't planning on drafting a QB early. They probably hoped to be able to but you can't count on that in March when you're picking at 20. They obviously trusted Dalton to start more than Foles.

I would take a bus driver like Foles . . . he protects the ball and with this talent He would keep the team competitive

Also Foles seems to engage with the team, and they have his back... Throw in the street credit of winning the big one and at the right price a great option

That was their 2nd mistake trusting Dalton over Foles.

The Cowboys came into camp with two third-stringers and a practice squad guy.

That they thought any of them were legit QB2 options speaks to the overwhelming success they have had over the last quarter century.

Would think the Coach in Chicago needs to go with the best guy on the roster....that is easily Fields. I mean, he has a job to save. Dalton and Foles aren't going to do that.

Andy Dalton was considered the best or one of the best backup QBs last season, and he was boring **. If that's the best this league has to offer just get ready for the draft if Dak goes down again.

I'll take Rush. I was a GG guy, but sheesh gotta jump of that wagon.

:hammer:

Foles has been with 6 teams in the last 8 years. There is a reason.
But he also has pro bowl appearances and a Super Bowl win on his resume. . . before Chicago lucked into Fields He was gonna do what he does . . . protect the ball and let the defense Win games. . with the Cowboys His potential Ceiling is raised even moreso

The thing is that Gilbert has a decent arm...that completion to Lamb was a frozen rope and he has had several other really nice throws during preseason. Rush's arm is just so limiting..if anything is off it means bad news.

There are few clear options available that would be better.

That was only in effect up until he got His big Pay Day . . . the problem now is . . . we cant afford a Quality backup

Meh . . . if they drop Rush they can always pick him up again

Check the waiver wire now! Shouldn't KMoore be held accountable for QB development too?
Four summers ago he and Rush were battling for a backup spot. And through Moore being first QB coach then the OC, Rush has been with Cowboys except for the 2020 TC-preseason and first two months of regular season.
Yet - when Dalton went own last season, OC Moore and \ or HC McCarthy chose to go with the rookie and the journeyman to play and start. Appears the staff is waffling on decisions and direction about the QB room outside of Prescott.
