What's Going on that Hamburger You Just Cooked?

Jalapeño/cayenne cheddar, if it's a well cooked (not well done) burger.
Jalapeño/cayenne cheddar, lettuce, and tomato, if it's a slightly overcooked burger.
BBQ sauce, if it's a well done burger...if I'm hungry enough to eat a well done burger.

Love so many toppings, but if your burger ain't got my home state New Mexican Hatch Green Chile on it, you're doing it wrong. Nuff said. Funny how popular the stuff has became. Stuff is in my DNA haha.

It depends on the day, but let's start with precooking. Salt and pepper...maybe a bit of butter on top. Then after cooking I like to mix it up. Sometimes just mustard and pickles, or just mustard, or mustard lettuce pickles and sautéed onions, maybe bacon and cheese. Maybe bbq sauce. Burgers are so versatile.

Side note: at Red Robin they have that burger with the egg on it.

that is bangin.

Mustard(or BBQ sauce), bacon and any kind of cheese……the rest has no business being there!

On a side note…..if you go the Southwestern route, put some Funyuns on it….it is fantastic

In a perfect world, grilled mushrooms and fined diced onions,
pepper jack cheese, just a hint on shredded lettuce served on a
slightly toasted bun with a teaspoon of spicy mustard on each bun.

On a standard burger I like cheddar, mustard, tomato, onion, pickle, and lettuce. On a road burger (burger eaten in the car) I cut everything but the cheese because I'll inevitably drop a ketchup cover pickle slice in my crotch. I cook Southwest burgers quite a bit with roasted green chilis and guacamole. I also like to make sliders on Hawaiian rolls with American cheese, grilled onions, an A1.

well, you start with a juicy Lucy witch already has cheese in the center.

Been a couple months since I made a burger, last one had lettuce, tomato, pickles, spicy brown mustard, bacon, grilled onions and jalapenos, mayo and a handful of shredded cheddar melted on top. It was big and messy, but it sure was dang good!

What will the well dressed hamburger be wearing you ask? Well, that all depends on the mood of the burgermeister.

Standard: Mustard, pickle, onions. Simple and to the point, no other adornments necessary.
Bacon: Mayo, lettuce, tomato, Am. cheese and bacon. AKA, The Breakfast Burger..
Island: Baste the burger in soy sauce laced with currant jelly, top with grilled pineapple ring, sharp cheddar in the hole and topped with grilled green onions.
Texican: Mister Mustard Hot Mustard, chili, onions, pickled jalapenos
Sicilian: Roasted garlic spread on the toasted bun, spicy tomato sauce, prosciutto or pepperoni grilled and chopped and smoked provolone or mozzarella.
Texan: Slice of pepper jack cheese, grilled red or white onions, pickled cabbage and BBQ sauce, basted on the burger the last few minutes of cooking and on the toasted bun.
Slammer: Extra pepper on the burger prior to grilling, Mike's Hot Honey, pickled jalapenos and crispy jalapenos with Havarti pepper cheese melted on the burger before it comes off the grill.

I honestly think I could eat a burger every day, especially when the burger itself is merely the vehicle all the accompaniments get to travel in. Also like the Brioche and Potato buns to break it up a little.

What is really nice is to do sliders and do a mixed bag of the burgers above for the variety because I usually get halfway through a burger and decide I'd like a different one.

Those of you who like onions, a hint for you. Chop your onion and then rinse it in a strainer or sieve for about 15 seconds and dry between paper towels. Makes a real difference because onions are so unpredictable.

A hint for those of you that like cucumber slices on your burger, STOP IT! JUST STOP IT!!!!!
