I’m not mad about what Dallas did but stop acting like it was some master stroke genius plan to get the player they wanted.

They settled for Parsons.

Its hard to call it "settling".

They needed a day 1 starter on defense and they got 1 of the 3 guys who could do that right now.

You better get a day 1 starter every single draft in the first round.

I believe Ron Rivera & Washington were targeting Parsons as their draft pick but Jerry got a whiff of this early on and took on some of Rivera’s mentality about importance of defense.

Last time Rivera took a LB he was the best one in the league and this might come true for Dallas. The year before Rivera took Kuechly the Carolina defense was ranked 28th in league and the year after the draft it jumped to 10th.

If it wasn’t for Dallas, Parson would hav slipped all the way to Washington turning that defense into truly elite one.

He drafted Parsons because the two CBs they wanted were off the board. The next best players on the board were QBs and WRs, so he traded down and took the best available defender on the board.

Had zero do with Rivera and WFT.

Washington was picking way too late to be thinking that they were getting Parsons

I mean a actual day 1 starter. Not someone you are starting because you invested a 1st round pick into them. Not a Taco Charlton.......which if I'm not mistaken I don't even think he was starting.

He didn't say anything about the Cowboys planning to draft Parsons. He just said Parsons was the top rated defender on their board.

Jerry drafted average defensive players (Ware was a coach pick) They never drafted anyone that is a difference maker or truly elite.

Ware was a coach pick. A coach Jerry choose and a coach Jerry chose to listen to. Quit hating just to hate.

Completely wrong!

Parcells wanted to draft Spears with first of their two 1st round picks but Jerry's crew convinced him that Spears would be available later but Ware and Merriman would be gone by their 2nd first round pick.

Parcells also liked Merriman as much or more than Ware but Jerry's crew convinced him that Ware was the better pick because Merriman had character issue and Ware was considered a great "character" type player.

Yeah, no doubt IF Parsons fell to Washington they should take him. Doesn't mean WFT was coveting/targeting Parsons or that Rivera and Mayhew had any plans on getting him.

Most expected if WFT traded up into the top ten, they were looking at getting a top tier QB to sit and learn behind Fitz.
(Some Mouth-Run-By-Fool opined that Washington would give up its entire draft for Trey Lance.)

The next area of concern was getting Trent Williams' replacement. (Penei Sewell)

It was assumed Washington would be able to trade into the 7th spot (this is where Sewell was drafted) for the #19, #51, #124, 2022 #1.
Mark Mayhew didn't make that trade, Sewell goes to Detroit. (But Parsons is still on the board)

To trade up to number 8, and pick Parsons, would cost WFT #19, #82, #163, and 2022 #1.
Didn't make that trade, didn't attempt it (so much for coveting/targeting Parson).

They held on to #19 and picked LB Jamin Davis.

At that time Rivera said, "This guy had the most position flex of any of them, and that's important to me because I believe a guy that can play all your LB positions can learn quickly, will understand quickly and will help others around him."

Also he said Davis was the highest-rated defensive player on Washington’s board when he was drafted.
And most telling Rivera discussed the quarterback position. Justin Fields was still on the board after the top 10 picks. Washington reportedly liked Fields but was never tempted to move up and sacrifice future assets.

What do "....never tempted to move up and sacrifice future assets" mean?

"We felt strongly about [being patient]. This isn't just [about] a piece. We have a chance to put pieces together."

Jerry and the FO have drafted a lot of defensive players before and after Rivera so taking Parsons had nothing to do with Ron or WFT.
The CBs were gone off the draft board and Parsons was the best defensive player on the board. Drafting Parsons has nothing to do with the WFT.

You do know that Parcells wanted to draft Marcus Spears at pick 11, but Jerry and the scouts overrode him right (Parcells was hoping to get Merriman on Ware at 20)? Not saying Jerry is all world or even completely competent at drafting, just saying that your example isn't factual.

Edit: I see I am late to the party. Good job all.

That's completley false. Jerry Jones took Ware, the coaching staff, mostly Parcells, wanted Merriman.

Jerry gets a ton of hate but he picked Ware over what the coaches wanted
