I’ll be shocked if Knight makes the team this year. He is way down the OT list, not a top backup at OG, and has had a miserable camp and preseason. He’s had enough time with Dallas to show he has no potential.

I think Steele hangs on as he has now had his first offseason and training camp and has at least made progress. They will likely keep Alarcon around too.

I don’t think Knight had a miserable camp or preseason. He may not make the Cowboys but he will be on an NFL roster in my opinion.

I don’t think Williams is leaving next year. At least, I hope not. Williams is the type of player I would like to see re-signed. Practices hard, plays hard, gives it his all, never a problem off the field, etc.

McGovern is pretty much just a backup.

I think they’d like to keep CW but I suspect he’s gonna get more than we can really pay with 3 of 5 oline men on second contracts
Hopefully by next year MCGovern is more than just a backup or someone else is ready
MCGovern got some valuable reps last year

This is McGovern’s 3rd year. Next year will be a contract year for him. If he plays well in 2022, then you will have to give him big money in 2023 to keep him.

Guard is probably the easiest oline spot to churn so I just keep doing it
Sign elite players like Martin, churn the rest
That’s the key to cap management to me

It's not certain that Collins and Smith will be back, but I think it's much more likely that not. If we see something to the contrary this season, then we can think about paying Williams, but I probably still wouldn't, as G just does not have premier position value, and Williams isn't at Martin's level to justify paying big bucks at G.

I think the philosophy is that the market price for top tier players is ok, particularly if you're keeping your own and know the value, but that market price for second tier players is too high.

Guard is a fairly easy position to fill with a “good” player. To me LB is also
Now when you get an elite player you hang on to him, especially at a difficult to find position
QB, edge rushers, a DT who can pressure the QB, these are tough to fill spots so they are likely to be the spots you extend a good player till you find an elite one
Guard though is maybe the easiest position to find a good player. Martin is an exception because he is elite

I guarantee if the Cowboys waive him, he will be selected by another team ASAP. The Cowboys will regret it like they did cutting Matt Moore and not having a legitimate back up QB since Jon Kitna.

Cowboys should keep Alacon on the roster as a back up OG, with Farnoik as the back up C to Biadasz. That would give the Cowboys Martin, Williams, McGovern and Alacon at OG. At OT it should be Smith, Collins, Steele, and Knight. That's keeping 10 on the OL which is normal.
