Another Year Of Absolutely No Depth

When you have a whole bunch of bloated contracts at the top, this is what you get

Exactly....I think this front office has over valved it's depth big time this off season...and it's about to smack them square in the face about week 2 when they figure out they have no CB opposite of Diggs....and they have to start juggling O-line pieces again to make it work....have no return game....and we start to doubt our kicker again.

Quinn may keep us in games w/ his blitz.....but eventually teams will figure out...find number 30 to beat the blitz....then what? :banghead:

I disagree about the secondary. This is the best the safety position has looked in years. And we are five deep at corner before even mentioning Wright who has played better than expected. We saw what Awuzie got paid and people here said he was trash. People said Byron Jones was trash when he was a top 10 corner lol. People act like we need five Ramsay's to have corner depth.
6 Would be better

we'll see.

QB...behind Dak is crap.
RB..i like whats behind zeke.
WR...5 deep...maybe 6....like it.
TE...schultz and a healthty mckeon give us good depth there.
OT...i think steele, knight and nsheke give us better depth than some think.
OG...martin williams mcgovern farnoik...i like whats there....the cornhusker has looked good.
C...behind biadasz....makes me nervous.

DE...like it.
DT...like it.
LB....5 or 6 deep...excited about parsons and cox...gifford has managed to stay healthy so far and has played well.
CB...behind diggs...i like what i've seen from wright and canady.
joseph...like the potential.
S...we'll see.

so i dont think its fair to say we have no depth at all.
problem spots to me are..QB2...C2...S.

but you wont get an answer til they are called on.
thats when you'll find out what you have.
I'd say that is a fairer presentation of our depth than what the OP is presenting. So, I agree with you.

NFL seasons always have injuries. Having depth is a good idea. But yet again, we have no depth. Our #2 QB is horrendous. OL depth is nonexistent. Which is a huge issue because Collins is getting hurt this offseason. And we all know Tyron will go down and most likely Maetin. And on the defense, the secondary depth is bad. Really no depth on that side of the ball at all. Another year of expecting the starters to stay on the field all year to have any chance to win.

The term "next man up" spells disaster.

But this is no surprising if you follow the drafts year and year. So much wasted junk, especially 2nd round picks.

The Cowboys didn't play ant starters in the preseason except of 1 series in one game on offense and a couple on defense. The past two games the cowboys have played their 2nd and 3rd string against the texan and jag starters. There isn't a team in the NFL that if they are playing their 2nd and 3rd string players are going to look good against another teams starters. In the future try looking at thing for what they are and not just whine and complain because you're part of the cancel culture that if things don't happen immediately then you whine.

I'll wait and see how things look in week 1 when the starters play.

There is no reason why this team should be afraid to trade any draft pick past round 2 (yes even some round 2 picks) complete waste with no depth as you have said. I hate listening to people who want to stockpile 3rd, 4th and 5th round picks. What superstar player did we lose out on by trading for Cooper?

You're another one that thinks trading is the end all be all fix for everything even though 90% of the time teams give up too much when they trade.

I agree with most of this, but OL, DT, and CB.

OT may be serviceable with Steele or Knight for a couple of gamea, but if they're both starting we're in trouble. I was excited to see what Josh Ball could bring, but we don't know enough once he gets back from injury. I don't have confidence in the backup group right now. At OG I like McGovern as a swing guard, but for interior depth that's about it.

CB I was excited about the competition the young guys would bring, but the CB group has had big ups and downs. I wouldn't want to have to rely on Wright and Joseph starting at this point. I don't think either is ready. I'm not even sure if Brown is the right option.

agree with your list

im with you the op is exaggerating so our 2 qb we might still address that NOW or if dak has major long term injury

OL looks better then most think..th reason last year looked lack of depth was we went 3 deep at some positions 4 qbs , 3rd string ol etc etc 17 injuries' to starters how can you fill that kind of depth

as the chiefs why didnt they have more OL depth huh?they lost like 2 ol players and looked horrible..

teams can have so much depth that theres no drop off there will be drop off and if its just guy here or there you can cover it up and compensate last year was just an anomaly and every single team that had major injuries issues ALL had losings seaosns,..no matter who their gm or coach was..ALL OF THEM lost more then they won.

Looking at the video of the War Room Stories you can tell the problem lies at the top. Too much ego involved, too much emotional investment for Jerry and now Stephen to get out of the way. These guys enjoy playing manager too much to relinquish the role. Having won the Switzer superbowl was the worst thing that could've happen to the franchise. It empowered Jerry to think there was nothing hard in running a successful NFL franchise. We've been spinning our wheels ever since.

Understood
But you need the cheap draft contracts in this salary cap league

The rookie center looked pretty darn good to me today.

We need a backup QB. I swear every team we played in pre-season I would have taken any of their backup QBs over ours. I would like to get one after week 1 and I mean any QB other than our 3. Next year I want to spend a 3rd rounder on a decent QB prospect.

TE you missed Jarwin.

Good post.
We are done if Dak can't take every snap at qb.

If you think the depth is bad now just imagine if we didn't draft so well all of the time every year.

Meh. I don't think the Cowboys depth is all that different than most teams. If any team in the NFL loses 2-3 starters on the OL they're screwed.

The issue is more the prevelance of injuries among starters.

Also, I'm not sure why Martin is suddenly an injury concern. 2020 was the first time in his career he missed significant time. There is no need to manufacture injury intrigue when the truth is enough.

Huh? I watched a whole OL of second stringers hold their own against the starting Jaguars DL. They didn't get much push in the run game but they held up in pass blocking and gave the QBs a good pocket to throw from all game. Knight, McGovern, Farniok, Jones, Steele, and Alarcon looked good as backups. Even #67 looked decent compared to how he looked 3 weeks ago.

McGovern and Farniok played like starters out there. Braylon Jones looks much improved from 2-3 weeks ago. I believe Jones and Farniok played the whole game.

Wr, rb, guard all good depth. Te also.

dt not bad when gallimore gets back, cb quality depth. Linebacker great depth. Safety great depth.

not sure I agree here. Some depth is bad. Not all.

you....are not wrong
Definitely. If we have numbers at CB, I think we should make a spare parts trade to get some depth elsewhere.

Id do that and sacrifice a late rounder for more depth
