Modern Day NFL defense vs Cowboys fans

The game thread early on got quite out of hand today.

A lot of posters in there bashing the defense and calling them trash and whatever other thing you can think of.

The truth is you guys just have to get used to defense being played this way. Dallas is playing defense at a high level. You’re going to worry yourself silly and get into stupid arguments about this defense.

Just know that all defenses are trash and Dallas has a defense that is not only less trash than others but at times it can make plays for our team with pressure and turnovers.

The Rams, who easily have the best defense in the NFL IMO, got absolutely lit up by the Cardinals today like they were nothing.

This is just the way the NFL is played.

The Panthers had the leagues #1 run defense. Did that run defense look like anything special? Rhule was trying to sneak a 12th man on the field today.

The game day thread is a terrible measuring stick on how Cowboys fans are judging the team in any facet of the game.
You get fans saying a player stinks after he mucks up a play then if the same player scores he's great.
It's an emotional roller coaster in there. Lol

The OL as a group has been spectacular. We can pick and choose on an individual but it’s ridiculous how good they have been. And that’s the secret sauce for this team. They are the MVP’s.

Yes...we still give up a big play now and then...like ALL defenses do. But we're finally getting stops AND turnovers.

Pressure and some big plays is the best we can expect. Stopping 3rd and longs and catching the ball when the opposing QB gives you the chance is a good D now. Rules and offensive skill players talent favors lots of yards and points.

But this is still what frustrates me about playing the prevent defense. Even average QBs will come back if you give them time in the pocket and space in the secondary. And great QBs will come back from 25 points in the last 20 minutes in a Super Bowl.

This D have playmakers and gives us a chance for the big prize as long as the coaches let them eat

It is so difficult to build and sustain a great defense in the NFL. It can be decades between generational defenses:

1966 Packers
1975 Steelers
1985 Bears
2000 Ravens

And current rules favor the offense now more than ever.

I mentioned that a few weeks ago. Comparing the other defenses around the league, the Cowboys D isn't so bad after all. In Fact, I think it's pretty good.

They are a feast or famine defense. Its almost either getting a turnover or giving up points. We have to do better job getting off the field. Giving up 28 points to darnold is not good

We did fine against Justin Herbert. It’s not going to be the same week to week. A really good defense can be embarrassed in this league.

You are right though, its a different era, we have to adjust our thinking. That said though they were 26th in the league before this game, not sure what now but they gave up 28 points so they couldnt have moved up too far.
One thing though is they are a big play defense so far this year and its been more than enough to beat two very good teams and almost beat a 3rd.

I prefer what we’re doing over having a higher ranking because we allow less yards.

Keep point totals low and turnovers high and I’ll take that over a high ranking any day.

Agreed! The team D is not playoff quality yet. Trying to rationalize the poor play as it being "modern" is just that, rationalization. It's early in the season and we've got players coming back so there's a chance the D improves, but it's reliance on turnovers is not ideal.

Im jus sayin they are getting turnovers right now which is dope but if they dont get turnovers teams are puttin up points. Cant rely on turnovers and be consistent
