by the by, I wonder how Jaylons merch sales are going? lol....askin for a friend. I think there's a valuable lesson to be learned here. YOU STILL HAVE TO BE GOOD AT YOUR CRAFT to sell merch and to have a "platform" priorities matter. I think Jaylon will be better for it as long as he learns. He's young still. Demarcus Lawrence U listening? Step it up young man. Results matter.

It's nothing new, especially with the birth of forums in the 90's and the creation of twitter really blew it up.

I get where he's coming from but it's a side effect of playing in the NFL and the biggest team in the NFL, where millions of fans watch you/track the teams year round. Some fans get too into it, and make comments that they would never say in person but that's the internet for you. I'm guilty of it as well.

OTOH

Unless he wasn't a fan of the NFL growing up, there's no way he was perfect and never made comments about a player sucking or wishing the team moved on.

Even Dak made comments about Romo on twitter years ago before he made it to the NFL. Does he regret those comments? Probably, but it's just fans being fans. Anywhere you go in the NFL some fans will make comments players may take personally if they read them. No one is forcing a player to either play in the NFL or read social media comments.

I think LVE needs to stop watching the news. Maybe he don’t realize what business he’s in?

This is a valid point. They are in the public eye and their salaries and actions are in full display, which opens them up to criticism or praise... it comes with the territory.

My only problem with it is athletes get it much worse than most other public figures because of the publics vested interest in the competitive environment and personal attachment to the team. This is evident in the fact that fans expect players to sacrifice their income for the good of the team.. nowhere does someone tell an employee they should take less so the organization can spread your portion of the income around. Fans see this singularly as a focus on team success, when in reality, it is employment first, team success second.

The players are human beings. They have feelings, just like all of us. They become close to other players, and in instances like this, are saddened by the departure of a friend.

I get it.

But another component for being a highly paid player living your childhood dreams is the adoration of the fans. Maybe a small p[art, but it factors in.

LVE just got a wake up call that the fan base is much more savage than the owners and management of this team. If there was a system where the fans voted people off the Cowboy island each week, this move would have happened before Smith got his pay raise.

Thank the stars there is not a system for that to be in place. Think of the players who have garnered the ire of fans and would have been cut before this team showed up this year looking like a contender.

They may have been playing 8 man football.

I'm sure this is not his 1st experience with this. Coaches work to form teams and tight bond where guys have each others back and as fans we expect them to become a close knit group so do be shocked when a guy gets frustrated by things he is seeing and hearing. I'm not say fans or sport media has no right to say whatever they feel, but I can understand the frustration of a player seeing someone who he has worked and played with being dumped on. Social media has made it even more so, in the past you had guys like Jim Rhome making disparaging remarks and many players would take issue with it

“We don’t go talking about someone else’s job, so why are they talking about our jobs?‘

Does LVE not realize he plays for the Dallas Cowboys?
agreed. What a weird statement

Literally his entire career is based on millions of people watching and discussing the sport he plays.

He's another country club boy that's out of touch with the real world. Not shocking that "don't be trying to make all the plays" and "if the owners ain't tripping then we good" was the mentality of this old crew

LVE, no it’s not.

The problem is you live in a different world then most people. Your job is to be great and if you’re not great you have to go.

You make millions and millions of dollars so nobody feels sorry for you. Jaylon Smith is rich. A multi multi millionaire.

So you’re going to be criticized and people will be happy when a team makes moves that they feel benefits it.

It’s nothing personal. I respect Jaylon and I’m sure it’s terrible you lost a buddy but he’ll be fine. He’s a multi millionaire that will be retired in his 30s.

Sounds like LVE needs a dose of reality. Maybe he's forgotten that there is one single purpose for his job, entertain NFL fans for 3 hours a week for roughly 5 months a year. In return, we the fans dump so much money into the league that it can pay him an exorbitant amount of money. I think his skin could be a little thicker if fans want to vent. If the NFL went away tomorrow, the world would move on without missing a beat.

Someone wants to criticize a DR or a teacher, fine he may have an argument.

Jaylon’s play and his contract hurt the team. It’s natural that fans would have some level of elation in getting rid of Jaylon. Athletes soak up the adulation of fans. The criticism is the other side of the coin.

I don’t hate Jaylon but I’m glad he’s gone. I make no apologies for that. I wish him well as a person.

LVE needs to focus on his play or he might be next.
