So there were I think four fourth down calls that could have gone either way, and of course many fans killing McCarthy over the decisions, but wondering how would people have gone under the circumstances.

I would not have gone on the first possession.

I would have gone on fourth and goal

I would not have gone on the missed fg with a few mins left

I would not have gone on the tying fg

Yeah, I know he tends to get killed on these decisions, and yeah, he is absolutely a maverick. But I agree on 3 of 4 of the decisions. What about others?

I’m with you in this.

Down 1 with 2:35 left 4th and 1. I'd go for that every day of the week if I had this offense. If we convert it we basically are able to burn down the clock and line up for a much shorter fg. We kicked and missed the rest is history. The 1st one in the 1st quarter was dumb as well.

How can you say you’d go every day of the week with a straight face when the previous two times we didn’t make it? Seems disingenuous or oblivious.

1. No, I would have punted
2. Yes, I would have gone for it
3. Yes, I would have gone for it
4. No, I would have taken the field goal but I wouldn't have called a TO with 20 seconds on the clock and given them a free play

I agree. I think it's because we didn't make it the two times before that and the Pats were stonewalling us pretty hard in short yardage situations.

I would have gone for it, or did a fake, in the first half with 2+ minutes left. It was a 51 or 49 yard kick and I thought we had them on their heals at that point, and if I remember it was only a yard to go.

A lot of guys here like to play revisionists and criticize risks when they don’t play off.

I, for one, love how aggressive McCarthy has been. It’s such a refreshing change from prior coaching staffs, who were either way too conservative or weren’t competent enough to know when to take chances.

Some calls might not pay off and I may scratch my head sometimes, but McCarthy is playing to win the games. That’s all I can ask for

We had two chances to get a yard on the first drive and didn’t get it. We had four chances to get a yard at the goal line and didn’t get.

And yes, it’s true. We ran all those plays and did not get that yard.

Yea, but no different than a missed kick.

I do like the aggressiveness of McCarthy as opposed to garret. Took garret 10 years to go for 4th downs. McCarthy doesn’t seem scared to do it.and why not…. This team is very tough to stop on those plays

Well hell yeah, if I knew he was gonna miss I wouldn’t have kicked it either.
To me, it is 4th and a yard. Everyone on the defense is stacked in the box ready to break heads for the run. Why not slip the TE out for a quick 5 yards? Every team does this, lines up head to head on 4th and short, like our line can get a yard against your line. With a running back like Zeke, the opponents are stacked like Pam Grier with a shotgun. I would line up like it is smash mouth time, then slip the TE out for a quick toss. Simple.

Good post.
I would not have gone on the first possession.
I go every time there.
I would have gone on fourth and goal
I go every time there.

I absolutely would have gone there. The chance at a 2 point lead with a lot of time left isn't worth passing up the chance to get the 1st and basically put the game away.
I would not have gone on the tying fg
You have to kick the FG there.

So, like you, I agree with MM on three of four, just not the same three.
