When looking at adding a player before the deadline you first have to be realistic about it. It has to be a player that will come at a decent cost draft pick wise, a player who's salary isnt way out of line, a scheme fit that fills a need. It also makes sense that a player like that would have to come from a rebuilding team.
He would most likely also be a player that has maxed out ceiling wise, NOT an ascending player.

I have closely looked over every roster in the NFL the last couple of days and matched those players up with the salary and contract they are in along with their teams overall situation.

I believe the best realistic move we can make is with the team we played yesterday , the Patriots. That player is Kyle Van Noy. A 4th or hopefully 5th round pick should do it. He fills two needs for us. One as a pass rush specialist and the other as a rotational/ backup linebacker where we could use another piece anyway.

Van Noy has great size, a LONG player that our Def Co covets,...he is smart and been a great contributor on some championship teams, he is also a thumper at times. He can be kicked outside to left defensive end on passing downs with Gregory at right end. Inside you play Osa at one of the tackle spots and kick Lawrence inside at the other tackle. We do this with Lawrence already sometimes. This is a passing down only rotation. He can also back up at linebacker and be a part of the goal line/big package stuff.

As an added bonus I think he can be a great mentor and steadying influence for a young and hungry defense.

Defense needs upgrades. Some of that will come from guys returning from injury but I agree that we should be going all in on this season
Yep. I think this is a move that can pay big dividends down the road without having to give up the farm.

Definitely wouldn't hate a 4th for Van Noy. 12.5 sacks the last two seasons, and a solid LB

Thankyou. IMO we need to add a little seasoning to the dish, not replace it. Van Noy can do that at a half way decent price. He just kinds of adds to what we already have and isnt a progress stopper. Add him and get back Lawrence and Gallimore and I think we are in good shape. I can really see our defense hitting stride by the last quarter of the season.

We have reinforcements coming after the bye, idk if I’d mess with this roster but I wouldn’t mind adding Kyle if it only takes a 4th or 5th. I really wish we could get the Pats center though, that dude is a stud.

Or an even better player as a late season addition: Tank Lawrence

Yeah I think Lawrence greatly improves our pass rush as well as our run defense. Same with Gallimore and Hill.. I thought our DTs got pushed around a lot yesterday. All of them.. Those guys are better athletes than Osa, Urban and Bohanna and are more disruptive. I also think getting Wilson back will help the secondary.. as will Joseph as he develops.. Long story short.. this team doesn't need to make any trades or acquisitions.. Reinforcements are coming.

Scoff all you want but Hill was coming on last year before he went down. He has elite first step quickness for a man his size and a great motor.. The kid just needed to learn.. which he was doing.. I am cautiously optimistic that he's going to come back and wreck shop for us..

I kind of agree with you. The kid has a great first step Ive noticed,...and he DOES impact some plays with it. He just never seems to be able to finish. Hopefully he learns.

No he wasn't. He was still on his asz too often and pushed to the 2nd level over and over. He stinks. He'll only play if injuries get really bad. I don't even know if he is hurt at this point. Just stash him until you figure it out?.

Keep in mind Randy Gregory, Dalton Shultz, and Gallup are free agents. I think it’s imperative that we keep RG and Dalton. Cedric Wilson is just as good as Gallup in my opinion (might be an unpopular opinion) but look who Dak threw the ball to on 4th and 5 with like 40 seconds to go in the game, if Cedric doesn’t make that 11 yard catch - we lose. The guy very rarely drops the ball.

They need a couple of linebackers and to keep Hooker and when he returns Wilson at safety. Kazee was a complete mess at the spot last evening. People forget he started for one of the worst defenses going last season. Atlanta. Dallas hopefully will be better when Tank and Gallimore return up front. I think we should also go out and get another corner maybe even before addressing the linebacking spot. Brown is adequate but when we start playing even more better quarterbacks. You'll see the real Brown come forward once again. But moving forward he'd make a better slot corner then outside IMO.
