I had that exact thought soooo many times while watching him.

Then I convinced myself that I was being delusional— no NFL LB would possibly do that.

I truly feel that he just wants to save his body while still making NFL money. Pretty sad, honestly

I don't think its about saving his body. He couldn't even push the sled in training camp. He has no strength and power in that damaged leg and he fears he will get trucked and embarrassed if he takes on RBs head on in the gap. That will ruin his reputation and marketing ability going forward. He simply wants to run and chase and rack up tackles in the box score so he can claim he is still an elite player and be able to market his businesses. All of that goes away with 2 or 3 highlights on sportscenter of him getting trucked.

It's not physical, it's mental. He's unable to get his mind to work right. If you don't run right at him with a clear and obvious assignment he will struggle
No, it's physical. He can only cut one way. Think about that.

I guess I am still totally at a loss for how this guy seems to lack basic (like highschool level) gap discipline. All he has to do is scrape down the line slightly behind the RB's current path and he is right there for that tackle. I understand that the knee injury may have robbed him of quite a bit of his bend and athletic ability, but he seems to lack basic instinct. He would commonly actually loop around an offensive lineman and directly take himself out of a play over and over. It shows up in this video too on the second play. I am kind of shocked he reached this level (and a pro bowl!) without any sense of how to play the LB position.

That is the only thing I hate about all of this. Jaylon seems like a class act and a guy you really want to root for. I just think he has physical limitations due to the injury that are holding him back. Seems stiff and lacks good lateral movement.

I really dont get the whole class act thing. Jaylen seems to be the biggest narcissist in a league that is filled with them without any of the talent.

GB , enjoy THAT impact.
 Maybe he invested in sunglasses as a precursor to sundresses.

EXACTLY. If he goes to where he is SUPPOSED to be...and then is to physically limited to stack and shed or run through the block and make the tackle...then I could say his physical limitations are his issue. He is NEVER where a LBer is supposed to be. That means he does not process what he is seeing!

For how shamelessly he promotes himself and for his complete lack of reality awareness, Jaylon deserves this feedback from fans and media.

He’s the first to call himself elite, unabashedly ask for pro bowl votes, wear mink coats to a game and then do his swipe celebration after stopping a guy for a 30 yard gain during said game.

Clowns are meant to be laughed at. And in purely a football sense, Jaylon Smith is one of the biggest clowns I’ve seen.
A clown that moonwalks or dances like MC Hammer on the field. The FO deserves a blanket party for giving him ANY second contract.

Mission accomplished at the Cowboys expense.
