Agree 100%......I'm keeping an eye on Nussmeier ( Dak's QB coach ) possibly getting promoted
There's nothing to be learned from this statement, because what else could he possibly say? This is actually the second time he's addressed this. The first time he pretty acknowledged we'll probably lose Kellen, saying they wanted to take the advantage of him while he's here.
What I would have said is ..
"We are focused on this season with the coaches and players we have and we are excited to see what happens. We will worry about next season after this season is over."
It's not very hard ...
The "next man up" mantra is nothing but a coping mechanism to make everyone feel better about losing important personnel. This was posted in the radio recap in another thread.
Having said that, allow me to submit this.
Replacing a player, next man up, reveals the iffy proposition the next man up theory cloaks. Coach speak doesn't address the fact the guy you have behind your stud is there because he is cheap on your pocketbook.
But to extrapolate this theory to game callers and coaches, and somehow reduce this to a bromide which says nothing about the expected drop off, is sheer stupidity.
Now marry in the fact Bert and Ernie Jones have fielded some pretty mediocre play callers for a quarter of a century, and his comment doesn't instill any confidence in me that he could pick a winner in a one horse race.
If Stephen Jones tripped and fell to the floor, a bushel basket of dumb arse would spill out.
If it's in the hands of the Jones,i can see them " suggest " McCarthy to promote Nussmeier to OC as to keep a similar Kellen like offense for Dak.as possible.
If it's the hands of McCarthy, i could see MM promoting his long time buddy Joe Philibin to OC, as what was his role in GB. while fishing for ex-Packers OL coach James Campen (currently with Texans)
NFL owners do not usually make 33 year olds with less than 5 years of coaching experience take over their franchises.
Maybe we could bring Garrett back as OC. Lol
It is his offense afterall Moore is using.
Just said this in another post.........he would my first choice
Yeah....me neither!! I don't want any more ex-packers' coaches!!I wouldn't like this.......at all lol
Kingsbury hired by Arizona after 6 years of sub-.500 college head coaching record (5 years college OC).....and he is doing pretty well so far.
Whose offense is it?LOL
It certainly is not.
He is 42 years old with 12 years of coaching experience.
Not 33 years old with less than 5 years of coaching experience.
The "next man up" mantra is nothing but a coping mechanism to make everyone feel better about losing important personnel.
No one ever says "next man up" for backup players or assistant position coaches because there is less of a perceived loss.
With the talent this team has, it can win without Kellen but his departure would mean the team losing the insurance his play calling provides that helps cover for player mistakes on offense, defense and special teams as well as coaching mistakes made at key points in the game.
I think Jerry and Stephen know that Kellen is more important to the team than McCarthy (I do not dislike him, but what does he do really?) and I will not be surprised if they fire McCarthy and promote Kellen.
I can also see Jerry and Stephen trying to convince Kellen to wait one more year to see if the Cowboys head coaching position becomes available after next season.
But unlike Garrett, Moore knows what to do with Garretts offense....Maybe we could bring Garrett back as OC. Lol
It is his offense afterall Moore is using.
I prefer the wait one more year.
Something which might factor into that decision for Moore is the free agents at the end of this year. Who will be retained, and who walks. The roster, as it stands, is really good. But there are some decisions which will be made that could affect the outcome next year. Moore will need to consider that. He doesn't seem to be in a position to warrant his approval on who stays and who goes. Not certain what weight to apply to this situation.
But I disagree on his value. The duo of Moore and Prescott, as they target the weak spots of the other team seems near flawless. I think Kellen leaving would have a pronounced affect on the offense. I see nothing in the wings which suggest they have the replacement.
Yes but he was hired at the age of 40 years old.
Rams hired Sean McVey at the age of 30 years old.
Steelers hired Mike Tomlin at 34 years old
Raiders hired Lane Kiffin at 31 years old.
Tampa Bay hired Raheem Morris at 32 years old.
The point is there is numerous examples of younger coaches being hired as the NFL is transitioning towards younger coaches given a chance as HC's.
