A ton of yards? He's given up like 245 yards in 6 games.. A third of which came on one play which frankly wasn't on him because he pulled up to allow his teammate who had a better angle on the ball to make a play. The "ton of yards" complaint is yet another false narrative being pedaled. Right up there with "garbage time passing yards."

Romo took us to the playoffs three of his first four seasons as a starter.. I think that earned him a lot of faith from the fans and his teammates. It wasn't until the 8-8 threepeat under Garrett that his "leadership" really started to wane. Then 2014 happened and he became the unquestioned leader of the franchise. He was the reason we spent half of 2015 thinking he could come back and save us. Then ... you know.. he got old..

The 8-8 threepeat was when Garrett finally ruined the offense and impose his style of football. Romo just couldn't overcome bad coaching coupled with a bad defense.

I have never been a huge fan of his.. He's always been a stat compiler and loser to me.. But upon further review I gotta give it up to him. He has now evolved into that realm where Romo eventually got to in 2013.. He no longer makes the fatal mistake that loses his team the game.. He manages the game pretty well now.. He throws the ball well and cannot be fooled very often. I still don't believe he's put the team on my back QB but it would be intellectually dishonest to not acknowledge what he has become. His passer rating is tad inflated because he runs the WCO but he's got weapons and he finds them. As long as Cook is in the lineup to keep the defense off him he's dangerous..

He'd be a good backup for Dak,,,,,I think he could beat our Cooper.

I would almost agree with you except in his last 20 starts under Garrett Romo went 16-4. Seems like whatever happened to "ruin" Romo led to pretty good success. IMHO Romo's penchant for untimely turnovers helped create that 8-8 conundrum as anyone. Romo was good for 2-3 3+ INT games every year for that stretch. That performance against the Ratscums at the end of 2012 .. my God.. I still have nightmares about that brain dead throw at the end of the game for his 3rd INT which essentially ended the game and our season..

Romo's INTs can also be attributed to defenses that knew exactly where we were going to with the Ball. We were way too predictable with our offense. Romo relied on Witten way too much and too long. Just sit in those Y routes and you'll have INTs from Romo all day long. Just ask Luke Keuchley on Thanksgiving day....

I hated teams we just tee off on Romo because Garrett stubbornly didn't find ways of using play action, draws or a bootleg. Those plays were a staple of the offense when Romo started out his career. It slowly started to phase out with 10 step drops, no play action and slow developing routes.

Good.. I’m ready for a team to get vertical on us so we can finally get after the QB.

Im tired of people going on PFF or whatever then coming back and complaining about our pass rush when the QBs we play are ultra conservative until we build a lead on them and they inevitably unravel.

It will be another good test. Like us they are not 1 dimensional. We should expect to face similar quality offenses in the playoffs and need to be able to handle them.

• 6th in Total TDs- Total Turnvoers
• 9th this Passer Rating
• so 8th overall in combined stats
• also, 1st in fewest turnvoers

He's played well...so far.

Having the only 32nd ranked defense in Cowboys history one of those years didn't help.

And the O-lines during that stretch were nightmarishly bad.
During another "8-8" year, they were actually 8-7, but Romo couldn't play the last game and we lost at home.

That awful pick in 2012 (and it was bad) to end the year w/ seemingly everyone getting hurt late in the 4th quarter was brutal. It was like the bridge scene in Monte Python where they keep chopping off limbs....basically all alone trying to win it on the road.

The very next year at Washington....we flipped the script and he led them to a game-winning, last seconds drive to win there.
But of course, 2012 is what folks choose to remember.

This is 100% correct.
Not sure if he deserves to be in that conversation (I'll let others argue that) but on paper he is usually up there.

He does seem to have something missing at time though

Career stats are excellent. Hadn't beaten winning teams as of a last October article I read to the tune of a 7-31 won/loss record at that time.
Most recently read that this year he was 4 for 4 in achieving field goal position to tie or win at the end of ball games.

All the same team vs. what a franchise QB's role of accountability vs. a game manager's role is in responsibility to team wins that is spewed here.
Stats back up his career individual play. Team wins not so much.

Sounds familiar.

Cousins lacks mobility so has become a quick check down artist; but all in all he is a very legit NFL starter and borderline franchise guy.
His 7.0 Air Yards is the lowest of the top 25 QBs and he has the highest expected % percentage but his lack of mistakes steady hand is a top 15 skillset.

DAL will need to expect the ball to come out quick then go up and tackle.

Stat compiler loser? You sound like you are describing a lot of people. Like Zeke for instance. Cousins has always been good. You are just late to the game.

Romo didnt make fatal mistakes that lost games for us?

I think in terms of ability Romo and Cousins are very comparable.

All in all I'd say Romo was a LITTLE better.. I think Cousins' passer ratings are slightly inflated owing to the preponderance of high percentage throws in the offenses he has run. Romo was asked to be a difference maker and make more challenging throws in his time which is why I think he was better than Cousins. When teams have put their fate on Cousins' arm he has crashed and burned. I think Romo was a better athlete which allowed him the ability to make plays when the play breaks down when Cousins generally just has to throw the ball away. That's why he has rarely been the reason his teams have won. But I aint gonna diss him too much. He's a competent NFL starter.. and there are generally less than 25-30 of those in the world. I'd have to rank Cousins at least in the top 20.. I just would not ask him to go win me a game.. at least not before I asked 15-20 other QBs..
