Has anyone ever seen a guy play so poorly and keep his job as Connor Williams?

Connor Williams has been doing a good job outside of the penalties; and to be honest the ones he got called for today were ticky-tack.

I don't think he's as big a liability as some people think.

We're #1 in the NFL in most offensive categories that matter and that's even including the absolute crapburger we served up against Denver. Some people just want to complain.

Conner Williams has become the new Doug Free.
you mean the underrated and very solid player in Free? same thing with Cwill

outside of the oddballs' penalties the last few weeks, seems like hes being picked on or dumb lick that cut block was not a cut block and another was also sketchy, hes Doug in the fact he does his job more times then not..60 snaps and fans find 3 they don't like maybe 4 a game and some how

2 full coaching staffs and 4 that FOUR OL Coaches keep Cwill as the starter..

lets not exaggerate and trying and tell a seasoned coaching staff who should be cut or replaced.gets old, fans want to believe they know more then coaches..hes not perfect he solid player nothing special but obviously stayed as starter regadess of the OLC or new staff changes,,, they do know what they have in players..

Outside of the penalties? Like Winston is a great QB outside of the picks? I'm reminded of a line I love - "Other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?"

No just no. I've never seen so much hope and praise for such an average player. Every week it's "oh he does the dirty work", "not everyone can be p0ro bowl level", "he's average which is hard to get"

Williams (with 4 knee surgeries in 3 years plus coming off a year leading the NFL in penalties) will be looking at like 3 years for 22-25 million total. Gallup gets way more money then that
Williams is the only player who actually played every single game for us
It’s not about praise, it’s the reality
He’s a solid nfl guard and our fans are spoiled to thinking every nfl player is like Martin
I would let CW walk because he’s not an elite player but he’s gonna get a really good contract because other teams have players who are much worse
And I bet he gets more than Gallup does for two reasons. The last several drafts have yielded really deep WR classes and there is several really good WR hitting FA this year if they aren’t taged

Has anyone ever seen a guy play so poorly and keep his job. He must have pictures of Jerry with call girls or something.

The coaches really need to consider playing Collins there and moving Steele back to RT when Tyron returns. The penalties and whiffs are going to keep happening and a play like that could cost the team a playoff game.

Is there anyone that thinks this guy should keep his job? Dudes in his fourth year for goodness sake.

Have you watched the tape of the game, and looked at EVERY play? I havent, so I cant say how good or poor hes played, but I think you are jumping to conclusions. That beind said, when Tyron returns, I think these coaches arent foolish enough to not do what you said. Its gonna be a competition to see if he stays there or Collins takes his job.

Dallas was where Williams wanted to be drafted, I wouldn't be surprised to see him re-signed to a short term modest deal if the Cowboys want him back.

Now, he's mostly been criticized here because of penalties. Frankly looking at a number of these penalties a lot are ticky tack stuff that normally goes unpentalized. However, once you get a few and opposing teams point it out on film to refs you lose the benefit of the doubt. I think that's part of the problem here. Secondly we've gotten spoiled with some exceptional interior linemen over the years and when we have someone that's not all-pro caliber he's borederline trash.

Frankly this line has played pretty well particularly in pass protection where we're one of the better teams in sacks allowed. Run blocking hasn't always been consistent game to game, but a big part of that has to do with the extra men in the box.

Lord I hope he gets a big contract next year, bring on the premium comp pick! :flagwave:
I hope all our FA get big contracts but he and Gallup should both get good deals
Then the following year we get good comp picks because I don’t see us signing any high dollar players at all

I understand your point, but it's not like he's missing blocks, getting blown off the ball, and giving up three sacks every game. Williams needs to clean up the fouls but the guy is a very good guard,

You missed the sarcasm.

I mean Conner is Doug Free from the standpoint that he's the 4th or 5th best of a group of 5. Doug was the same. And people used to beat up Doug every day because of it.

Nevermind almost everybody else next to Doug was a first round pick.

As you would expect. That didn't matter.

He's gotten better as this year has progressed, but the penalties are killers. And the problem now is he has the reputation so the refs are watching him like a hawk.

And always will be. What else are people gonna talk about?

I remember Flozell Adams getting torched every week for his false starts. And he was partially deaf in his right ear.

LOL!!!!

Mostly agree here and you're right Williams isn't the bad guard some think here. Outside of the penalties, he's been a pretty solid starter, which is why he has kept his job. I think Gallup will get quite a bit more though, while Williams may touch 7 million a year on the higher side.
