Where does Dak rank among all time Cowboy great QBs?

Craig Morton never beat out Roger he was the next man up after Don Meredith retired. There was no competition between Craig Morton and Roger in 1969. That was Roger’s rookie year. Tom Landry wasn’t about to start a rookie QB. Craig Morton inherited the job. Morton and Staubach competed in 1971 and Roger beat him out during that season.

Very true, but it seemed Landry initially favored Morton's style (traditional) than Roger the Dodger. Remember after the SB VI win, in the 72 season, Landry stayed with Morton after Roger was healed up from his preseason shoulder separation. Landry finally decided to permanently move on from Morton after Staubach overcame a 28-13 deficit in the playoffs against San Fran. and threw two touchdown passes in the last 90 seconds to win the game 30–28

Can we also clear something up? There's always going to be those group of fans who will always prefer the new over the old? Dak could win 5 rings but people will always say Roger and Aikman were better.

There's no way in hell it will happen but if Dak somehow manages to win 5 rings as a Cowboy, Staubach and Aikman would get filed away into the memory banks. Good thing for Roger and Troy this has an almost zero chance of coming true. Pigs will fly before Dak wins 5 rings.

I will mildly disagree here .. I think if Dak wins at least one championship and has the team in contention for a 5-6 year stretch he could elevate himself above Troy. Though I don't think it's possible to pass Roger.. Led the NFL in passing twice in 8 years as a starter and was second twice.. Also started in the Super Bowl in 4 of his 8 years as a starter.. and played in the NFC Championship in 5 of 8 while making the playoffs in 7 of 8. That's just stupid. Can you imagine what he might have accomplished without the 5 year hitch in the Navy and if defenders couldn't whack him upside the head forcing him to retire from concussions. He was the NFL's leading passer his last year before retiring so clearly dude had productive years left..
Troy won 3, RonnieT - that bears noting.

Landry didn’t like Roger running. I think Landry decided to stay with the hot hand in 1972 similar to what Jimmy did in 1991 when Aikman was ready to return from his injury. The Cowboys were 7-2 with Morton in 72. This is a pretty interesting article about Staubach and his injury in 1972. There’s also a video about when Romo sustained his injury in preseason in 2016 and Dak took over.

Yes Troy won three.. but Troy only played in 3 Super Bowls in his 12 year career when Roger played in 4 in his 8. When you're playing for the championship in half your years as a starter winning 2 and both losses were 4 point classics to me that trumps one more Super Bowl win.. Then you throw in 4 times leading the NFL in passer rating and 2 times leading in passing TDs as well as having the lowest INT rate 3 times.. you're talking all time greatness. In contrast Troy led the league in completion percentage once and INT rate once.. So when ranking among their peers Roger stood head and shoulders above most anybody in his time while Troy was right in there near the top but at no time would we have been able to say he was the absolute hands down best. Roger also had a MUCH higher winning percentage.. 74.6% vs 57%. I don't hold it against Roger that Jackie Smith dropped that ball and the refs managed to through that phantom PI against us the following series.. He played well enough to win that game..

Can you put all this in to an algebra equation? lol.

I though this was about Dak if he wins a SB he will be elevated above Troy. Are you thinking that Dak can win at least 4 SB's while he is on the team? I hope you are not saying that...that is looking into the future.

Not saying anything.. We're just kicking around hypotheticals here.. That's kinda what sports talk is all about. If Dak is able to lead his team to at least one Super Bowl win he will surpass everybody but Roger and Troy.. If he wins two but never gets close ever again he will stay there.. If he wins three he will pass Troy because IMHO he will have done it with inferior teammates especially on defense... but in order to pass Roger he would have to win at least two, get to two more and lose in tight games and have the team in the NFC Championship at least 2-3 other times.. Oh and he would have to win 4-5 passing titles and lead the league in passing TDs a couple of times. Piece o cake right?

Ok...lol...you lost me. I'm going to hit me some good herb and think about this?

However, I will say this is looking like the right time for Dak and the team to get it done. KC...coming around.

Roger Staubach
Troy Aikman
Tony Romo
Danny White
Jason Garrett (lul)
Cooper Rush (lul)

Is it too early to have this conversation? Did Fanbuzz nail it? I, personally, see Dak finishing his career on the upper half of said list.

Most will know why I included Garrett and Rush on the list... Purely for laughs but there was another reason too.
Way to early let’s wait until he actually does something. You also missed a QB who should be in that list Dandy Don, not even close at this point in his career.

Tony Romo gets far too much love from Cowboys fans. I respect Tony and truly appreciate what he did for the Cowboys, some good, some bad years. However, at this point, he's not above Dak. Dak equaled Tony's best season in his rookie year. Dak means more to this team at this point than Tony ever did. Dak means everything to this team, so as far as rankings, I'd say...

1. Roger
2. Troy
3. Don
4. Danny
5. Dak
6. Tony
