When a QB throws a ball, all benches yell "ball" to signal the CBs. At that point, the ball is just getting in the air. Locate it, determine if you can have a play on it, and if not just concentrate on making the tackle. Panic sets in lots of times when a receiver loses them and they accelerate just to keep pace but sometimes the ball is underthrown and you can get a piece of it if you're looking. It is easier said than done though, I agree.

With that strategy, it's amazing anyone can complete a pass. Just yell Ball.

If he turns his head around and stops face guarding he won’t get many PIs.

Until Thursday he only had one all season. I don't think it's about face guarding, which is legal by the way.. I think the Raiders got into the refs' heads and exploited the fact that they were excited to throw flags that day.. Brown is likely playing the technique he is being taught.. Well maybe not because nobody teaches DBs to let a guy who is actually slower than you get two steps then run like hell to catch up.

Don’t think they’re teaching Brown and a different technique than Diggs. He’s always looking for the ball. Face guarding is a terrible technique especially when the ball is under thrown because the DB just runs into the WR and gets a flag most of the time.

I played corner in HS, even started a few games.
It's hard. Often, it goes against every instinct you have.

Interestingly Connor Williams despite being replaced the last two weeks still leads the NFL in penalties and yards.

And we have three of the top 17 players in number of penalties (Williams, Diggs, Steele) and #1, #2 and #9 in penalty yards ( Williams, Brown and Diggs).

After that display on Thanksgiving, I firmly believe that AB has now become the "instant pass interference" first down for opposing teams. All they have to do is throw it up in his general direction and the refs will be all be competing to get their flags out. Two of the calls on Thanksgiving were legit. One was borderline and the other was plain ridiculous and was clear it was only called because of "reputation." The one where Brown ran with the receiver and the guy reach out and grabbed his helmet was terrible. Brown actually never did make contact with the guy until the guy grabbed his head. But the flags came out immediately. Then Steratore with the "he didn't get his head around" BS.. He couldn't get his head around because the receiver had hold of it!!! Brown will lead the NFL in PI for the rest of this season.. Book it.. They will have to bench him to get it to stop. Similar to what they had to do with Williams.
no excuses, the raiders game was bad for Brown, but lets say we bench brown...because it makes you and few others feel better. who is going to replace him? Lewis...ok, who is going to replace Lewis? ....and is Lewis any better than brown?

we knew going into the season that we needed help at all levels of the defense, including CB....so lets say we could have traded up with minimal draft picks and take Surtain...would you be happy with Surtain and now Parsons?

brown is what brown is....average CB....makes mistakes....that's why he is average.....

but lets not forget the refs in the league are very inconsistent and this past game they called 33 penalties....that's 25% of the plays (Raiders+cowboys)....that's totally ridiculous and couple of the calls on brown were ticky tacky and I watched the exact same play, same defensive interference not get called in the KC game.....

this was quite pathetic......

Anthony Brown got exposed because of no pass rush. He has always been a better slot defender. Ever since his rookie year he got beat deep. Lewis got exposed for the same reason. Get Gregory back and hopefully Lawrence pulls his weight and set the defensive ship right again.

And who takes his place? Lewis? laughable. Either of the rookies? They are not ready and Wright is now out with covid anyway. We do not have the depth to sit Brown right now. not and actually compete. he's had 1 bad game to start the year vs AB and got some questionable calls last week but otherwise has been pretty dam good but you want to sit him for guys who aren't nearly ready? Are we tanking or trying to win the division?

It doesn't matter that A. Brown has given up few yards less than J. Lewis. we are talking about Anthony Brown at the 2CB spot, not J Lewis at the 3/4th spot. There is a difference here between the two and what is expected from each one of them. What matters is that A. Brown does not turn his head around and lacks "SITUATIONAL AWARNESS. I have seen more than a few plays this year’s where it was pass interference/face mask on A. Brown that was not called, but should have been called. I think everyone on this forum would agree with me on this fact.

If a player cause penalties that puts your team in bad situations, he needs to be benched or at a minimum temporarily benched. A good teacher should create an environment which allows the student to succeed. Who has been teaching this young man to turn his head around for the last 6 years? I refuse to believe there is no lesson plan on this. Just my thoughts and not directed to any single person in this post.

and yet diggs has been penalized more then once for holding and Pis and been beat his share of times for big plays..

Browns issue were more to do with quick flag ref crew and few bad decisions..this isnt how hes played most of the year and hopefully gets it corrected..

Yeah Brown has only really been bad in two games.. My fear though is that the debacle against the Raiders now paints a target on him. Every team is going to whisper in the refs' ears that "that guy holds and commits PI" and by the power of suggestion all of them will have the hands on their flags ready to throw every time the ball is thrown in his direction. It's not about his play.. it's about how these things develop over time.. Once you get labeled as "penalty guy" it's nigh impossible to shake it. That's why I said they are probably going to have to bench him to fix it.

Anthony Brown was picked on again tonight and he struggled mightily. Any decent passing qb would have killed us tonight going after Brown.
