Who decides who plays? Coaches, players, or?

In this organization, who decides who starts, how long they play, etc? Why am I asking?
  • It is clear that Zeke has no business playing right now and should be resting for the stretch run. And why was he still running the ball when the game was clearly decided and all they needed was someone to soak some clock?
  • Do star players just disregard coaches’ decisions or are coaches allowing this?
  • Or- Are Jerry and the FO calling the shots on playing time? Jerry foolishly announces injury updates on his radio “show” weekly. Is he in charge of playing time and who starts?
I like seeing players showing toughness but Zeke is a liability right now. There’s a line between toughness and effectiveness and Zeke’s injury is clearly making him ineffective.

Why is he playing and who decides that?

Apparently it depends on the player. Dak wanted to go and was held out by the staff. Tyron thought he could go and was held out vs KC. Zeke didn't have any business playing yesterday, you are right.

Well said.

I 100% agree. Zeke should have taken the 17 days of rest and prepared for the stretch run.

I do wonder if MM had been there if it would have been different. Probably not, but he is the only difference between Zeke, Dak, and Tyron.

HC's make ALL the calls. Decisions like Shanahan allowing RGIII to continue playing on a clearly hurt leg are one's that HC's constantly have to make. We can argue whether he was right or wrong to do so, but the bottom line is that it's the HC's call.

Not the coordinator, not even Griffin. That falls on the HC, he carries the weight of that decision regardless of what the aftermath looks like.

Obviously it's the HC and the medical staff (if they don't clear someone, he's not playing no matter what MM says).

MM said in a news conference last week they were thinking of not playing Zeke against the Saints to rest his knee. When reporters asked Zeke about it he replied “nobody has talked to me about sitting”. Then Zeke played. Not sure what conclusion to draw from that. MM is afraid of Zeke and backed down ? Jerry told MM to mind his own business ?

I don't think it is always that simple. The trainers/Dr have the say when a player is hurt. If they work them at prior to the game and in the trainer/DR view, he's not ready, he doesn't play. If the trainer's sign off, then he is avialable to play then it becomes a coach's decision on usage. My guess is that the trainer/DR said no on Smith and Dak but green lighted Zeke.

I think we all know the answer.

It was obvious on the Elliott situation as our HC said one thing and our owner said another. Guess who words made the difference.

I know fans want to believe things are different with this HC but it’s not likely.

I kind of knew that…still can’t believe that may be true. I’m almost surprised JJ doesn’t have a challenge flag bazooka from the owners box and that’s he’s not on a headset.

Pitiful.
It is what it is . The bigger question is why was he intent on Zeke playing?

I know, I wish he would just be HC, it would be fun to watch.
I think though Jerry doesnt like blame and the heat a HC gets, so he is content to coach from the background, and his puppet coaches then take the heat.
And jerry believes in getting his moneys worth, zeke is the big money back so jerry wants to see him play regardless of how it affects team.
Also dak and zeke are buddies, so dak may want zeke over pollard.

These players are jerry's toys, and the ones he pays big, and the ones he likes, he wants them out there. There is no strategy to it, just what jerry wants. lol
Jerry wanted a serious load of zeke , so coaches had to comply.
Everyone is saying pollard is better and should be getting most carries, but jerry cant allow a low paid back to take over for the guy he pays 15 mil a year.

maybe both, but I think dak figures into this and I guess zeke wants to play so dak says I want zeke.
And Jerry wants zeke, and to keep dakeroo happy so Mike has to make everyone happy.:p

We have a few threads dedicated to Zeke.
My take is Jerry is calling the shot that he plays,
and this is to the teams detriment.

I think every decision gets discussed with the Joneses before it is finalized before the games each week.

He said he gets the game plans when they're ready each week, do other GM's get that or even want that? And what does he do once he gets them?

Do other GM's do radio shows to appease their overgrown ego and make who's in/who's out announcements or do the HC's do that on the other 31 teams?

He is the face of the Cowboys by design. When any of the media outlets do stories about the Cowboys as a team, does his name ever not get mentioned? Do you even know who owns or GM's most of the other teams not in our division?

When the natives were getting restless with Garrett as the HC, Booger made the comment he was comfortable with Garrett and didn't want to change. Why do you think he was comfortable with Garrett and why do you think he hired a man he didn't know in a 12 hour interview? Because that man spent 12 hours making him comfortable.

He came in talking "jocks to socks" and he wasn't kidding but he has this ego problem that didn't allow him to learn from Johnson or Parcells on how to actually build a football team. Booger thinks it is easier than it really is. That and nepotism are his Achilles Tendon.
