Yes, the offensive line play has dropped off.

Yes, the running plays have been more plain vanilla and less effective.

Yes, there have been more drops by receivers.

Yes, Dak has made some poor choices.

Yes, the offensive play calling has been head scratching.

But here's something I haven't seen or heard anyone address: The diminished role of the tight end.

Over the first 7 games of the season, when Dallas went 6-1 and outscored opponents 225-162, tight ends caught 43 passes on 56 targets for 460 yards and 5 TDs.

Over the last 5 games, in which Dallas is 2-3 and has barely outscored opponents 128-105 (thanks to the lopsided 43-3 victory of Atlanta), tight ends have only caught 23 passes on 33 attempts for 237 yards and 2 TDs.

I don't know for sure that 11 personnel has been used less frequently in this rough patch (although my Spidey sense says that it has), or that it has had a direct relationship to the declining effectiveness of the run game (ditto) or things like 3rd down conversion rates and drive length (ditto and ditto), but that would be an interesting study.

My totally uneducated opinion is that, when the offense is playing well, the tight ends are an important component because they are complementing both the passing game and the running game -- and that they have been used less frequently and less effectively over the past 5 games, when the offense that was white hot to start the season has cooled considerably. I'd sure like to see it fixed over the remainder of this season.

He's not a weak link....but he's not much of an asset.....

He’s not an elite player but he’s been very solid. He’s developed into a pretty good TE. He’s put some points on the board and he’s moved the sticks in some critical situations. He had one TD called back due to a penalty that could’ve helped us beat the Raiders. He’s put up some good numbers when you consider the talent we have at WR. He gets plenty of opportunities despite all the good receivers we have.

Dalton Schultz has played very well this season. He’s not a weak link. He’s almost equalled his totals from last season.

total breath of fresh air, and i'm glad we have him. but he's part of this decline, too.

first 7 games:
33 catches on 44 targets, 370 yards, 3 TDs

last 5 games:
19 catches on 27 targets, 210 yards, 1 TD

Look no further than the OL issues and Dak hasn’t been as sharp as he was earlier in the season. All of our receivers numbers have declined some since early in the season.

OL and OC are the biggest issue..dont run or pass protect very well and the OC is responsible for better run game and blocking schemes..all the skill positions suffer when the OL and OC aren't getting it done..

BTW in this offense with those wrs , the TE doesn't need to be great..not enough balls to go around especially when dak doesn't have time to throw...

easy that list is big waste of time..all that needed was one line..

The current weakness of the team is the entire offense and kicker. Unfortunately, we cannot boot this QB or RB for a while, so we are stuck. What we CAN do is replace this offensive line and kicker in the off-season. We need a LT to replace Tyron in the first round. A LG and RG. A new Center. We’ll need another WR to replace Gallup and Wilson leaving. Defense should be okay if we extend Gregory for the time being. Maybe draft a safety and another corner. Then pick up a good college kicker.

He’s not a great blocker but neither was Jason Witten. Being steady is an asset. He already has more receiving yards than Witten had his final two seasons with the Cowboys. He’s on pace to have a more productive season than Witten since 2013. Most of us didn’t think a TE would get many opportunities with all the talent we have at WR. Not sure we ever had this deep a wide receiving corp when Witten was here.
He's from Stanford...that's why you support him...he's a JAG....and he's probably gone after this year...

Re sign Schultz in the off-season with McKeon backing him up would love to see Eubanks make a return in 2022 in camp . I don’t know out of 22 positions TE has to rank very low on the needs list going into 2022

I’m originally from Texas I pull for the Longhorns. If that’s you trying to mess with me again you’re doing a bad job. Lol Schultz has more catches and TD’s than Kyle Pitts who was a top 5 pick. He’s the Falcons leading receiver with Calvin Ridley gone. He gets a lot more opportunities than Schultz and Schultz is less than 100 yards off his total. Schultz will be here next season.

I like Shultz, but he's nothing special and probably won't be on our team next year....but, I'd trade him for Pitts in a heartbeat....

I never said he was anything special but he’s been a solid TE the past 2 seasons. I would also take Kyle Pitts in a heartbeat. So we agree there. I believe Schultz will be here next season.

The last few years of his career Witten wasn't good at very much, but the guy was among the best blocking TEs in the league in his prime, maybe the best. Schultz has been fine, but I cant remember a time ever in the league where we have had this many good to elite TEs. If you have a chance to upgrade at the position you would be crazy not to.

I wouldn’t mind upgrading I was one of those on the board that was hoping we could get Kyle Pitts on draft day. Witten’s blocking was very good earlier in his career but it did drop off later. Dalton Schultz has been a surprise to everyone. He’s been solid enough to where TE isn’t a real huge need. There’s other areas of the team that we need to address.
