This is still being talked about?

Cowboys should win this game. And soundly. They are the better team.

A coach saying that he believes his team should win is “yawn”. That is the point of the game. These words will have zero impact on the game. Coaching and players making plays will. Every team gets up to play the Cowboys whether the coach says something or not.

These words are made to seem bigger than they are only by the fans and talking heads.

It was the NFC Championship game, not a regular season game with a 2 game lead in the division. If you don’t understand the difference, not sure what to tell you.
So you believe it’s inherently smarter to make a bold guarantee that creates national headlines before a huge playoff game than it is a regular season game vs an inferior opponent?

Okay. If you say so.

I’d ask you what exactly you base that on, but I’m sure there’s no good answer.

There’s no good answer for spouting off one’s mouth ever, but I’ll say this:

1. The NFCCG was win or go home. That team’s swagger was well-earned and the Cowboys were a feared team at the time. They had just blown out the Eagles in the divisional round and went 13-3 in the regular season. This team has accomplished nothing under MM

2. MM can’t even be mentioned in the same breath as JJ. JJ had his pulse on the team and knew how to motivate them. MM has yet to prove he can do that. We’ve lost 3 of the last 5 right now. This team needs to put their head down, focus on execution, and not be concerned over comments their coach makes. They all need to shut up and do their talking on the field.

3. What, you think it’s brave, takes stones or something to guarantee a victory? It’s stupid and ill-advised.

4. There’s zero upside to guaranteeing a regular season win, but there’s huge downside if we lose after his proclamation.

5. Again, see Bill Belichick and the Patriots. You want a model for how to handle players and the press? He’s given it to everyone.

6. I’ll say it again: We haven’t earned the right to be cocky. Sorry if you don’t get that.

Yeah, I think I trust a Super Bowl-winning coach more than I trust you on this. Sorry.

There’s zero upside to it... why? Because YOU say so?

What if we pound Washington by 30? And what if our guys say postgame that McCarthy’s words made them want to back their coach up? That it actually fired them up and gave them extra confidence?

Then what?

Let me guess... you still won’t be wrong, right?

You keep bringing up Belichick, but what Jimmy said before the NFC title game is ALSO something Belichick would never say, even though Belichick’s teams had “earned the right” to be cocky as well.

So that’s 2 separate camps/2 separate schools of thought. Don’t pretend you’re on the sensible side of both Belichick AND Jimmy. Nice try though.

I’m quite confident we’ll win Sunday. Maybe that’s why I don’t mind McCarthy saying what he said.

And once we win, all the hand-wringing over what McCarthy said will be proven to have been silly.

I'm just curious how they plan to win with no running game. Pollard is injured, Zeke is injured, Clement is no good. I'm just very concerned.

But MM said we're gonna win it. :p

Joe Namath once guaranteed a superbowl win and went on doing just that. And they were the underdog. Don't care at all if MM's call has any impact on this team or the WFT. If they lose that one, they are pretender and nothing else. No run game blabla... injury excuse again? Maybe the refs are also in on this. Just preparing...

I'm surprised he didn't add in "only if the dumb receivers run their routes right and stop making Dak's bad throws look bad" in there somewhere.

Dak will surely put the offense on his back and we'll win it with his arm.

I ALMOST said that without laughing.

Quite frankly, if bulletin board material is enough to cause you to lose a game, you aren't winning the Superbowl anyway.

I will love this comment if we back it up and stomp a mudhole in the....what do I call them...The Valdemorts? Anyway, if any proclamation of success is enough to trip us up, the whole team is a mirage anyway. If we make the statement true, it becomes part of the momentum you need to build this time of the year.

Well, we said that against Denver and LV too. The best team doesn’t always win. Upsets do happen.

But it won’t be the HC fault. He’s saving us from Jethro and Son. Lol

He guaranteed a victory. Not much more he can do:)

He can go out and win, as for Jerry and son they have brought the talent into Dallas. This team does not lack talent and no matter what others may think I will give credit to them for getting the talent we see on the field. I have said many times that there are things I have disagreed on with Jerry but I will also give credit on things I like that he and Stephen have done.

So you’re saying that every Patriots team since Bill B has been the HC has played scared? Man, please…..

the comparisons to a 6 time Super Bowl winner are ridiculous. The coach said he’s confident his team will win and you’re crying about it. Meanwhile this team spent the last decade with no confidence at all. lol

Exactly right. It is being treated like McCarthy went out of his way to talk the media for the specific purpose of publicly declaring that the Cowboys will win.

Reality is that it was just a normal press conference and he was answering questions and it's natural he would say he is confident his team will win.

Should be a non-story, but as long as the media knows it can twist and sensationalize things to get this kind of reaction it will continue to act this ridiculously.

I'm not 'crying' about anything. You want a culture that promotes winning? Follow the lead of that 6x SB champion.

I'm not wringing my hands. Best not hear a word from you about how we should do ANYTHING like NE does, because that seems to be a common theme with many users here.

Let MM guarantee something after he's actually accomplished something with the Dallas Cowboys. One SB win means nothing. I don't look at Kubiak and think he hung the moon because he won a SB once, and his win was more recent than MM's.

You're probably a guy that would draw up a 1st down celebration for yourself. Me? I'd prefer to act like I'd actually done it before.
