Lawrence is a 5-tech DE. Greg Ellis should have been too, he was a bit OOP. Run stopping bigger guys like Lawrence who aren't quick twitch don't belong at OLB in a 3-4. They belong in the JJ Watt role - 5 tech DE. Every down rusher.
The myth of "we don't have enough LBs for 3-4 scheme" is hogwash. For OLB, Micah and Gregory obviously fit that bill, and we also have Armstrong and a couple other backups who can do that, and we can find another guy in the draft and another on the street to back up our stars no problem. For ILB, we have Cox who is a long term cornerstone at ILB, likely the Will / spy position with that speed and quicks combo. Kearse also is a 3-4 ILB in today's nickel league.
We also have other guys like Gifford who can fill that role and we can draft another ILB in the mid rounds too, and/or re-sign Neal is another possibility but not a necessity. Remember it's a nickel league (more than 50% of snaps are either nickel, big nickel, dime, dollar or quarter -- so not base -- though I haven't seen Dollar used since the Marinelli era) so the second ILB isn't always a necessity.
