1. They could’ve parted ways with Gregory many times but Jerry did it the right way because he saw the player he could be

2. Drafting Parsons is a franchise changer. Wow wow wow

3. Finally investing in Dak long term and taking care of the contract before the regular season starts

4. Hiring McCarthy was the right decision. He knows how to build a championship team and his players absolutely love him

5. Dan Quinn hire

I think there was a big turning point when Jerry passed on drafting Johnny Manziel and went with a high quality O lineman in Zack Martin instead. It's easy to look back and say "well, duh," but Manziel had been playing lights out in college and looked like a brilliant escape artist and miracle maker. A lot of people thought he would become an elite NFL quarterback. I'm proud of this organization for seeing through the Manziel hype. Manziel had a bunch of playing habits that worked in the NCAA, but will get you clobbered in the NFL, not to mention his off the field shenanigans. He had bad field habits and not anywhere near the maturity to overcome them. Instead of that bozo, we got an outstanding lineman that you can build from.

Some of y'all seem awfully concerned with making sure ol' Jerry gets his credit. :muttley:

When he and sonny demonstrate they can win something their way I'll be happy to give them credit. They've been chasing it going on 3 decades, so let's hope this is the season.

Yes, the old man has had a good year. But as you said, I will withhold the “credit” until we win at least a divisional playoff game. And if so, he will deserve his craved “credit”.

And I will also give him credit for being rich enough to not have a boss that could fire him for the last 25 years. He’s the only GM (besides Brown in Cincy) that can keep his job despite results.

Put it this way…if any of us had the cash and time stand all day at a Vegas roulette table and roll it time after time after time after time after time after time after time….26 times and finally get a good spin…how much credit would be due?

They do, but probably not for these reasons

1. They could’ve parted ways with Gregory many times but Jerry did it the right way because he saw the player he could be

I mean...when suspended, he doesn't count against the salary cap. Josh Gordon was with the Browns through a few suspensions and six seasons (this was Gregory's 7th season), but in the midst of two year stretch where they won *one* combined game...heads roll and you have to make people uncomfortable. Can't do that with Josh Gordon sittin around suspended every year. If they were a consistent 7-9 to 9-7, he'd probably still be a Brown.

2. Drafting Parsons is a franchise changer. Wow wow

Meh...we were lucky that he was there at 10 and we traded down to 12. Imagine how sick we'd be if the Giants took him, instead of trading down. We got lucky

3. Finally investing in Dak long term and taking care of the contract before the regular season starts

He would have been cheaper if we signed him *after* 2018 or even *after* 2019. Tagging him and not signing him long term until 2021 was a mistake. Getting him done, even if it meant over paying *before* Wentz and Goff was the shrewd move. Waiting until *after* Mahomes and Watson was a blunder. I think the Bills almost beat us to the punch with Josh Allen which would have been clown **** bad

4. Hiring McCarthy was the right decision. He knows how to build a championship team and his players absolutely love him

5. Dan Quinn hire

Yes, hiring McCarthy was the right choice, but I give more credit to McCarthy for luring Quinn

Until we win a divisional playoff game, Jones deserves all the credit for the worst 25 year stretch in our history. This worst stretch in Cowboys history is on the JJ since those years supersede any head coach, QB, or any other assistant coaches (i.e., JJ is the architect of the past 25 seasons).

It all started when Jerry decided to move on from Garrett, and especially Marinelli
Stephen Jones pushed Garrett out the door.

Jerry was still having meetings with Garrett while Stephen Jones was interviewing McCarthy.

S. Jones runs the football operations now and all coaches including McCarthy report to him.

DLaw's agent said he never met Jerry during contract negotiations.
- S. Jones negotiates all big contracts now.
- Dez was the last big contract where Jerry was involved in the negotiations.

Jerry would have given a new contract to Garrett & Witten and would Dez would still be on the roster is S. Jones didn't push them out.

It makes sense that the only people a big ego guy like Jerry will empower is his own kids.

Jerry World played a big part in Jerry empowering S. Jones to take charge of football operations.

Jerry loves all of the wheeling and dealing that he does with Jerry World.
- Boxing, concerts, college football, Super Bowl, etc..
- Anybody involved with 'renting' Jerry World must meet with Jerry including people like Bono (U2), etc..

He also has mini-Jerry world (The Star) which hosts high school football games and other events as well as a membership club similar to a high end country club.

Even a broken clock is right twice a day. Or once every 25 years. ;-)

I don't think anyone questions the dedication or work ethic of management. How is it that a team, so unsuccessful over the past generation (by the brutal measurement of the sport), can simultaneously be the most valuable sports franchise on Earth? Would be nice for all of us to see that effort rewarded after so long.

Correcting your own mistakes is commendable.

Better late than never, as they say.

One thing they have done exceptionally well this year is manage the roster with the injuries, etc.

It’s looking good but I wouldn’t cash in your chips just yet. Let’s wait and see how it goes in the playoffs before we declare this a complete success.

Unless another frustrating early exit is going to feel better this time.

And even if you get it right after 25 years doesn’t forgive you.

I agree with 1 and probably 4.

2 they were all over the place in what they wanted to do and settled for the best player on their board

3 they got wrong, they were too late

5 I believe McCarthy suggested Quinn

True but this is out of the hands of the GM be it Jerry or Stephen at this point. Everything now falls on the shoulder of coaches and players

That’s not necessarily true. Jethro and Son are still influencing decisions and set a tone in the public with their comments which can effect players perception and culture in the locker room.

We aren’t sure how much our owners influence if a player rest for an injury, etc . Earlier MM said he wanted to rest Elliott for example but Coach Jethro said Elliott could play. Or how much input they have in game planning .

I have yet to see that. Jerry may say he thinks a player will play this coming game and has been wrong as McCarthy has held some individual who were dealing with injury. Right now this season is on the players and coaches. Management went out and got the players to do the job and regardless of comments this season McCarthy has done things as he sees fit.

I don’t agree. The Elliott situation a few weeks ago a perfect example. And he’s probably influenced Tyron’s decision too.

He certainly continues making public statements which would lead me to believe he’s in the decision making process .

McCarthy doesn’t get final say.

Jerry has made statement and in the end that is not what happened. I'm sorry I don't think Jerry is telling McCarthy how to run the team. I think Jerry is privy to meetings they have but no I don't think Jerry is running around telling McCarthy what he will do.
