Free agent DE who looks ok? Someone will pay too much for him, and I hope it isn't us.

Thanks for reminding me about Basham. I love the 2 year free agent "prove it" contract, so we get a cheap year after the guy has proven it.

PFF scored Armstrong/Basham all but identically at 63.9/63.8. Golston at 60.6 already.

I expect Gregory and Armstrong are gone, and we go forward with Bashem and Golston playing run downs, and Parsons rushing on pass downs. Pending the draft.

I think we're heading toward more of a 3-4/5-2 look, with bigger DE/LB tweeners as OLBs, but a S/LB tweener as one of the ILBs. Could be a better fit for Gregory as an OLB, and we move Dlaw. I don't see us keeping both.

Osa seems like the kind of guy you pick as one of the DEs for that. And Bohanna as the NT. Put a little more weight on Golston, and he's the other DE of a 3 man front. And then Cox as the S/ILB coverage tweener. Sure looks like we drafted that 3-4/5-2.

This defense is hybrid.

You keep DLaw.

If at all possible.

He’s a rotational player, he’s exactly doing what he supposed to be doing. What’s your freaking problem.

Whirlwin unless your a pro bowler these “ fans “ think the guys a “ jag “ ….ya know like the “ football gods “ told them ….

Would rather keep Armstrong and let someone else take a 5th round pick . You need depth as Tanks injury and Gregory missing games has proven . Rotating fresh players on D that can actually play keeps the pressure up.
I understand the feeling, but in the salary cap world I don't think you can afford to pay "a little above average" (example: Tyrone Crawford). You need to spend on difference makers and let everyone else walk. A few of those may come back to bite you, but you can't keep everyone and you shouldn't pay someone on what you'll hope they'll become. Hopefully with some big mistakes in this area the Cowboys are wiser now.

Life is full of tradeoffs. DLaw is very expensive, hasn't produced much since getting his contract, and is now facing a scheme where he isn't the best fit. He's a fit as a 4-3 DE. Less so in other roles. His contract is even less justified than it was when we signed him.

A lot of Pats players on D were considered Jags when they signed them...look what happens when a player is put in a good system with solid coaching. Issues arise when they leave said system, as we know all too well in our last number of years on the D side of the ball

Yes. Only the real smart fans can understand how impactful Dorance Armstrong has been.

Keep em coming.

I said: adequate starter.
Never said "impactful starter".

Armstrong would start for about 10 teams.

Dependable......solid.....these are words you use to describe someone that's filling in until you get a someone really good.

Armstrong's sudden improvement is the result of playing around guys like Parsons, Gregory, even some of the rookies. Remember his TD?

He’s a jag. Jags get involved a little from time to time but he’s no different than a Basham.
This is how you build a team like so many Cowboys teams of the recent past. You take care of the stars but ignore the roster depth: hey, they’re all jags, so they’re all the same.

LOL

You're out of our mind if you think that stiff would start for anyone not riddled with injuries and just needing a guy to fill in for a week.

Quality depth IMO, but he’s the kinda guy you let walk because you can’t offer a bigger role and he’s likely to be offered more than you’re willing to pay.

Gholston becomes his replacement and we can grab another guy in the mid rounds.

They've played some snaps with Odighi or Gallimore lined up outside the OT.

Kamura has more upside IMO.

Was more sorry to lose a young player like him.

But players like Azur and Dorrance are available late in every draft or off the FA heap.
Maybe based on measurables with regards to pas rushing, but Kamara really didn't do much despite being active for 9 games this season.

Armstrong was the better college player.

Armstrong has been versatile often lining up inside on 3rd and medium/long and sometimes dropping into coverage.

It's too bad that Anae hasn't panned out.
- I think Quinn would like to have a player in the role Anae played in college.
- i.e. True DE/LB hybrid (Not just a DE that occasionally dropped into zone coverage).

I will not be surprised if they draft a DE early, even if they re-sign Gregory.

Armstrong has been a contributor since the beginning but fans didn't notice.
- He averaged 30% of the snaps on defense prior to this season.
- He has been in the top 4 of the DE rotation for most games in his career.

Bit of an unsung dude this year. With all the injuries we have had at DE, he has put some solid starts. And he has pretty solid as a rotational player when the starts are healthy.

Fun fact, we have only given up 20 points in 1 or the 5 games Armstrong has started

Yep, too bad he waited til his contract year to have a decent season. Still not worth the second contract here, we got Gregory and others we need to try to resign.

He's our Jim Jeffcoat and Tony Tolbert of our generation. Solid roll players.

Once you leave comedy central and talk football you expose yourself.

-Lions Michael Brockers, 1 sack (30 solo tackles, 44.1 PFF)
