Why Trevon Diggs' PFF Grade Doesn't Reflect His Interception Total

PFF is not the only tool to use when looking at a player's performance. It is just one tool of many. If you take away a few big pass plays Diggs gave up this year I would imagine his PFF grade would be much higher.

There is no way to justify giving Diggs a low grade, I don't care how many yards he's allowed. Taking the ball away, denying an opponent a chance to score while giving your own offense a bonus possession, is the most important thing a defensive player can do.

To that end, Diggs is having a historically great season.

It makes you wonder how he would be looked at if he only had 3 INTs and not 11 INTs
Those nerds are funny. So in their metric an interception does means the same as a pass break up or a penalty. The big flaw in their rating is that they don’t take into account the number 1 receivers he covers. Unlike some corners Diggs seems to go were the ball is thrown. Especially in Zone coverage. I have seen him break off in other players areas to get interceptions or cause incompletions. I have him shut down Evans, Smith, and Terry. Hold his own against DJ Moore and Chargers top two receivers. The Eagle has landed.

The reason the grade is so low is not just because he's on pace to give up the most yards in 16 years and gotten the most penalties among CBs, but also he's ranked 127th out of 130 qualifying CBs in run defense.

I just hope ya'll don't be so quick to turn on him next season if none of this improves much but he only has 3 or 4 INTS.

his coverage is fine. With or without 11 ints.

Exactly. PFF is a trying to overcomplicate things that don't need to be. Their rankings are flawed from the start because they are ranking players against each other regardless of system or what they are asked to do. Anybody that knows what a preschooler knows about football will tell you Diggs is having a fantastic season.

Diggs had three picks as a rookie and everybody was saying what a promising player he was. If the biggest flaw in his game is run defense than he's going to be just fine. I won't turn on him because 11 picks is almost impossible to duplicate.

I wonder how many of the yards he gives up is because we don't have a decent safety to help him out over the top. Like, I'm sure they blamed him for the long pass against the Patriots but it wouldn't have happened if Kazee was a better player.

There are parts of Diggs game that are outstanding (11 picks), parts of his game that are not good (5 TD's given up) and parts of his game which are poor (most yards given up + bad run defender).

It's easy for me to understand why his PFF grade is as meh as it is.

I just don’t come away from a lot of games seeing Diggs coverage as an issue.

Im actually surprised he evidently gives up the yards he does all things considered.
Correct. It almost never happens. There was a 2-3 game stretch where he was bad. He’s been excellent every other game. OP is clueless. He doesn’t know what he’s watching.
