I threw a TV tray at a young 11, almost 12 yrs old. Danny White took them to 3 straight NFC Championship Games. Did a great job following up an All Timer like Roger. Helluva punter too. He did much better than any of the QBs debated around here today where they are celebrated for video stats and winning a division
Football is still the same sport, but not game...maybe we should give different eras their own earned respect.

Not really. Danny pumped his arm like he was about to pass, but it looked like he tried to tuck the ball away once Lawrence Pillers was almost on top of him. Unfortunately, his attempt to protect the ball as he was being sacked failed. I guess I can see your interpretation but it involves a bit of revisionist history. I don't recall anyone arguing that it was an incomplete pass attempt at the time, though many might have made the argument after the 'tuck rule' became a big thing a few decades later.

You can review it at roughly 2hr 15 min mark of the attached video.

Danny White has been blamed for that fumble. He hasn’t gotten his due credit, IMO as other QBs who have come after have had the excuse of another player making a mistake or not having a good enough team. Haven’t seen Danny get the excuse of poor blocking on that play.

He had the misfortune of having to follow Roger. I agree with @Ranching: with a different outcome in that game he'd have had a shot at the HOF.

A lot of that era's fans were biased and heavy handed on blame...and that history carried on to much of todayl

The radio announcers from whatever station in Honolulu that I was listening to totally went off on that. One of them said flat out something like, "Terrible call. That was a forward pass." I was listening to the radio because it was the only way to get the game live. I watched the tape of the game afterward and I agreed with the announcers. His arm was going forward in control on the ball and then he threw it forward while hit, and the ball did go forward. Incomplete pass. The radio announcers were right. It's a little bit of a moot point anyway since the Cowboys were robbed of 4 points when the refs earlier missed Eric Wright's interference on Doug Cosbie in the endzone on third down. We should have had a fresh set of downs, but instead settled for a field goal. With those 4 points, the stinking "catch" would not have been enough.

I was a young punk in the 80s and I am having bad flashbacks! Danny White would be in the HOF if it wasn't for the CATCH!

Fun Trivia fact: Tom Brady was 5 years old and in attendance at the The Catch game, he was a Niners fan.

Oh man, I agree and loved his play.

How about Don Meredith as well, who non-stop took incoming 'rounds.'

IMO, the most under-respected Cowboy quarterbacks were Meredith, Morton, and White. Meredith got hammered by opponents when the Cowboys had O line problems, but he was tough and hung in there. Morton played some great games in relief of an injured Don Meredith. Then in '69 when he took over for Meredith, he played one of the toughest Thanksgiving games ever. He played with a separated shoulder but still threw two TD passes in a tie against the 49ers. And White did a great job taking over for Staubach. He really got robbed in the "catch" game, or as I prefer to call it the "snatch."

These were all good quarterbacks. I wouldn't say they were as good as Staubach or Aikman, but they were good.

Most previous Dallas QB's had 'good' genes...

Not gonna lie, all the media, fans and 49ers players talking ish has worn thin with me. Time for the Cowboys to beat these chumps down like they stole something.
I hope this team has some guts and pride and takes this attitude. We've been soft mentally for so so many years. This team does feel different. Tomorrow we begin to find out.

I rewatched yesterday because NFLN is rubbing it in. I didn’t even remember White fumbling to end the game. In my mind the lucky catch ended it.

I'm having flash back of Emmitt Smith's pulled hamstring on that rain soaked field. The Cowboys could have had 4 SB wins in a row.

White didn't fumble. He was hit as he threw an incomplete pass, and the refs incorrectly ruled it a fumble.

You’re wrong White did fumble. It was similar to Tom Brady’s tuck play against the Raiders. White was going to throw but pulled the ball down into his body and fumbled as he got hit. Scroll to the end of the video. If you continue to say that was an incomplete pass you’re either blind or in denial.

Danny White / Tony Romo then?

Similar. Both had issues with untimely turnovers. Danny White was one of Romo’s biggest defenders because he received a lot of the same criticisms and was labeled as a choker by some.

Tuck rule was invented to save Brady and the Pats .

Yes, because this needed to have it's own thread....

You went from scared, not scared, to hate, so what's going to be your next thread today?

Sheeeesh.
It's a fan forum. People are fired up for the playoffs. No need to knock the guy. Just don't read the threads you don't like simple as that.
