That is the game they all play and only a few hit the jackpot and the others are faced with the dilemma of what do at that position.

Do we think PHL wants to go forward with Hurts or CLE with Mayfield? What's the alternative?

When Prescott was up, they wanted to keep him because they'd already made him a star and if they were honest, they are a lot luckier than good at finding QB's.

Lawrence and Herbert look like the real deal but what about L. Jackson, Fields, Tua, Z. Wilson, Lock, Goff, Wentz and Jones is going to need as much help as Tannehill in TEN.

Their teams want a boatload for Watson and Wilson and a GM still has to have the team around them.

What alternative to Prescott was there for this team? Brady? What makes anyone think he would choose Dallas over any other team especially TB? Money wasn't his bait, another ring was.

Most teams have to settle at QB and that is exactly what the Cowboys did.

Most teams are going to pay the QB more that they want but that's the nest they made with their rules. They either have to have a Brady, Mahomes or Rodgers or a 2nd tier QB and have the support for him. Or just keep picking QB's.

And let's place the blame where it goes, their mistake was not doing that deal, it was failing to keep the OL up and failures in the draft with Biadasz, McGovern and Williams because this is a QB that needs protection and time. And a run game and that circles right back to this OL.

I agree, at tis point the question is it quicker to look for outs on all our "Top players" and rebuild or try the dreeded "Add some pieces to this core" thats has not worked in 20 years...

It’s better to be awful than to lock yourself into mediocrity.

It’s too hard to win with a highly paid QB who is mediocre. That’s what we have to attempt to do.

6 seasons we have nothing to show for Dak and after his 1st season of being paid and the best team he will likely ever be on he is 1 and done in the post season.

Unfortunately for the Cowboys they're stuck with the Three Toe Sloth for another 2 - 3 years. This Sloth isn't going to win squat because he's too dam slow at everything he does in the pocket. If the Cowboys were smart, they would get rid of every player that has the ability to catch a football because they're worthless on this team. The Sloth would rather take a sack than throw to an open receiver. The Sloth would rather watch the run game all but disappear because other teams in this league want his to throw the ball, but the Sloth just can't get his head around something like that. He'd rather cradle the ball like it was his young one being gently rocked to sleep in his arms, that is until someone knocks him on his *** and he fumbles it away. Yes, the Three Toe Sloth employed by the Cowboys has one talent and that is his counting ability AND he's good at counting that $75 million dollars JJ paid him to impersonate a mediocre QB on the Dallas Cowboys..........................

I dont think Jerry thinks he settled at QB at all.

I think he truly believes that Prescott is elite the same way Jaylon Smith thinks he is elite.

It's called being delusional.

He has been overrating players for a very long time.

Much more often than not they are someone he drafted and has a personal relationship with.

Dallas didn't settle with Prescott, they knew he was their franchise QB and signed him according to market value. WAY too much emphasis is placed on the QB in terms of wins an losses that it's made people have tunnel vision. Put any QB behind center in Dallas vs. the 9ers for example and there's not many that would have "put the team on their shoulders." He did make some mistakes, don't get it twisted. But he was pressured 50% of the snaps, sacked 5 times and hit 14. The oline moved to the side while 4 defenders trashed our offense all game long. The total rushing yards was an embarrassing 77 total yards and Dak had 27 of them. Dak's mistakes aside, there's not many overcoming that train wreck.

...good points all around. The decline of the OL was biggest downfall this year. They couldn't scheme, run block, penalties..etc. Dak had to mentally change his game, I think to compensate. Look at first 6 games.? OL was doing well, everyone was following like domino effect.

Fair enough.

Since we were probably all in on him initially from his Rookie season I’d liked to have seen a better effort signing before that Rookie contract ended.

It’s almost like we were waiting for the team to have more success to justify a bigger contract.

The fact we played hardball cost us. By many indicators we could have signed him for closer to 35 before Wilson was signed.

In the long run 33-35 million may not make much difference in leu of 40 million but the perception of it does.

You have to either flunk out a year and get a #1 pick of the draft and hope one of these elite QBs fall to you out of college and if you are that bad then you have rebuilding to do. Or mortgage the farm to get one and have little around him. You have to be smart with the draft and the cap. Or do what some teams like us do. And it did not work because you have JJ as owner and won’t give up power. No HC that is a leader of men will take the job because he won’t be able to do the job without someone stepping in. Players know this. Team has to win despite the owner.

People think you have to Pay such and such guy top money because the un-known is sometimes scary. But they didn't have to pay Dak. Were the alternatives better? No but you can get nearly the same wins at less than half the cost, on a shorter deal, with ability to cut ties sooner, all while still trying to draft the next longer term QB. If you are going to have so much tied into 1 player, you might as well go all in and build the best win now team you can but they didnt do that either.

They took him because they “had” the best O-Line and RB in the NFL. In 2016 he lacked experience. Then they blitzed and he learned to beat that. Now the O-Line is not able to block and can take away the run game and put pressure on him with 4 people. There is the problem. They were so bad we have penalties to top it off. That’s coaching from O-Line coach. He has changed something from previous years. Sloppy and undisciplined. I saw some plays we had 2 blockers on one rusher. Lol.

12 wins in the regular season aren't cheap. Show me a QB this season with 12 wins that was available to hire at the time Jerry finally decided to pay Dak. He's not out there.

Every contract negotiation happens between team and player. Players chose the terms of a negotiated contract they wish to play for. Typically players do not play for contract terms they disagree with. Prescott would not have agreed with a shorter contract if it did not meet his expectations.

Then you let him walk is my point. There were and are other options, Dak was just the one they kinda knew.

Are you saying Jerry Jones should have let Prescott walk? I will not argue your assumption. Instead, I would point out that Jones' eventual signing of Prescott to a franchise quarterback level contract was predicted on this site as far back as 2017.

Jones was never allowing Prescott to walk. You would have let him walk. Other actual NFL executive may have done the exact same thing. Not Jerry Jones though. The man is not a hard read. Anyone could see it in his eyes back in October 2016. It was done deal years before Prescott put pen to paper.
