If we analyze San Francisco, they are winning, even though they have a bad QB, with bad numbers, why? Well, I attribute it to Kyle Shanahan, and of course to other good players, but it's not because of his QB, and here's Dallas' mistake, overpaying an average QB, believing that Dak was going to be the key piece to win, and It has been shown that no, at this moment QBs 1, 2 and 4 in the league, Rodgers, Brady and Allen, are out of the playoffs, they are elite, along with Mahomes, but even that does not guarantee you win, what is important? having a good HC, and having a good balance, offensive/defensive, does not work, nor did it help to have a QB of 40M per year, that hurts financially, and not being able to make big moves, look at the rams, they they brought Stafford, Miller, Michel, Beckham Jr, Ramsey via transfer, and others, out of nowhere they became a competitive team, they made strong moves and took risks, right now they are in the second round of the playoffs and with great possibilities being in the SB, Jones big mistake is overpaying players, and his biggest mistake was letting himself be pressured by Dak, to give him that contract, it would have been better to let him go and look for other alternatives; it was a disappointment, a whole inconsistency this season. A lousy contract that will leave the cowboys very limited for the next 2 seasons, wasting talent.

Stop the complaining.

Jimmy Garoppolo became the highest paid QB in the NFL when he signed a 5 year/$138 million dollar contract with the 49ers back in 2018. Yet, the 49ers were able to reach the Super Bowl in 2019 and have now reached the NFC Championship Game in 2021 with the potential to reach another SB. QBs are a team's most important player, hence why they get paid the most BY FAR. The difference between the Cowboys and 49ers is they have better coaches & a GM who have been able to draft well while picking up key free agents to coach them up to help them accomplish what they have the past 4-5 years while working around their QB's huge contract.

SF's defense is outstanding. I'm starting to believe the notion "defense wins championships." Tampa Bay gas a great defense also. Should be a great weekend for playoff games.

JG is THE reason the 49's lost that SB and he will be the reason they don't win it this year.

I'm fine with Jerry paying Dak. QBs are not cheap unless they're on a rookie deal. The smart GMs continue to make moves. The 49ers aggressively went after Jimmy G while also building they're Dline. And then built an offense that didn't require him to do too much. And then after a few years looked to draft a better QB (Lance) with Jimmy G still on the roster. Cause it's about winning and they don't give an F. Now they can play all kinds of games. They can trade Jimmy G for picks, they can bench him, work out a pay cut etc. When Jerry tried to play games with Dak but he had nothing to leverage him. They didn't draft a QB, they had no great free agent QB who would come here as an alternative. The point was further proven when Dak got hurt. Good GMs don't find themselves in bad situations long-term.

Exactly. At the time they signed Jimmy G, he was the highest paid qb and he only played in 7 games. The Niners were also picking in the top 10 for a lot of years ( got Bosa at 2) so that helps. Also no one thought Mahomes or Allen would be this good this quickly if you read their scouting reports or saw them in college. They go drafted based on potential; not production in college. All the teams took risks and it has paid off so far for them. We have Prescott for the next couple of years and need to live with it. Hopefully, he will improve.

Washington, Philly and the Giants beg to differ.

Although I agree, you have to consider how much of the cap the contract is taking up. Back when Jimmy G. went to the SB in 2019 his cap hit was 8.6% of the cap. This year he's at 13.4%, a good bit higher.

Mahomes is only a 7.4M cap hit this year, in 2022 it skyrockets. Even Stafford this year is only at 10.6% of the cap. That's very manageable. But of course, this is all considering the GM knows what he's doing. If one is a lot better than the other, these little % points aren't going to mean a whole lot.

Sheesh, it's almost like you are suggesting this franchise doesn't know what the heck we are doing :flagwave:

The Cowboys had 4 years of cheap Dak plus his franchise year. They didn't make "big moves" then, either.

That's not how Stephen Jones operates, and he's never going to be fired.
