Perhaps I'm misremembering someone, but seems like Dallas does has not focused on athleticism / measurables as mush on the DL as they have other positions.

All our picks seem to be buy of average athleticism, with some that with less than ideal measurables.

I would say that Trysten Hill was picked primarily on measurables and Neville Gallimore was a size-speed pick. Both were supposed to be quick off the ball.

What 3rd rounder was better than Osa and Gholston to make it not garbage?

And no, I don't expect a legit answer.

Not available when we picked, but Milton Williams showed some good thing in the season finale against us. Looked like he could become pretty legitimate for the Eagles going up against our starting linemen.

Rookie season and did a good job, he has a chance to put in the work during this offseason and continue to develop as a player

I will wait to see any progression in year 2, as with the other rookies as well.
I just hope he is not one of the next mid round DL that is a wasted pick. I am still not sold on Armstrong. Though he most likely will be gone via FA.

i noticed that DE Chauncey Golston is just not talked about much among Cowboys Nation.

He was a surprise 3rd rd pick and frankly i did not come away impressed
with his rookie 2021 season.

- Post-draft, Golston was thought of among most draft guru’s as a reach in the 3rd round – ditto with CB Nashon Wright.

I admit that I have not projected him as an front line factor. But there are some factors to be considered.

- Sure he was a rookie that missed the entire summer per injury and that had to stunt his growth
and development and I only saw a mere handful of flashes from him in the entire year,
and just thought he just wasn’t much of a factor.

- Frankly i haven't seen anything about Chauncey athletically and physically stands out, not an explosive first step off the ball, or overpowering hulk like strength.

- The hope I have with him is eventually being a guy that becomes so adept and advance in techniques that he is an very productive Overachiever.

- A Michael Bennett. type ?
Not impressively physically but just shows a uncanny Knack for plays and penetration.

I think this is a very fair assessment of Golston's rookie season. He looked pretty ordinary to me as well. He was easily blocked and rarely made plays. I thought his first few weeks he looked like he might be something but that faded quickly. I just did not see anything to give me much hope he will be anything but a JAG. But, it is early in his career. With hard work, maybe he can develop into a steady if not spectacular player.

I was hoping the Cowboys would have traded up to get Milton Williams. Maybe they thought he would fall to them. With 3 3rd round picks, they should have been more aggressive.

Good call on Hill, I do remember him looking good on paper.

Gallimore yes & no, I guess. I see he had a great 40' but really tanked all the agility testing.

Him and Osa looked similar. Risen said the 3rd was garbage. Not just Ghoston. I'm just pointing out how dude just shock posts

FIrst of all, the rookie three year rule is in play. I'm excited to see him next year and hoping they try him more on the inside on passing downs. He was almost always around the ball and was a solid run defender that rarely got pushed back even when double teamed.

What did he do last year that makes you think he's a "good" player?

Why do people struggle with just admitting guys like Golston, often drafted in the middle rounds, are nothing mroe than depth guys, rotational pieces? Because that's what Golston is and what his ceiling likely is.

In other words, if you Golston can replace Lawrence or Gregory, then you are likely reaching.

you can be a "depth guy" and still be a "good player".
the league is filled with good starters...and good depth pieces.
i thought golston played well in his spots the first part of the season.
then tailed off the latter part.
not surprising...alot of rookies cool off.
i liked him coming out of iowa because in the games i watched...he always stood out to me.
always around the ball...harassing the QB.
he was good vs the run as well.
thats who i saw here.
and i'm not gonna write him off simply because he was a third round pick some posters on here didn't like because they had never heard of him because they dont watch the big x.
and im not gonna write him off because he cooled off.
that happens.
i expect him to come to camp stronger and ready to build off what he did and be a better player.
thats usually what good players do.

It would be a challenge to get less from three 3rd round picks.

Will McClay's back though, right? At least we have that going for us.
I beg to differ. Some really showed up..

Wright was instrumental in that Denver game. May not have gotten beat if he were not on the field. Maybe the Cardinals as well.

When you can get 3 ST players versus trading up for Barmore, etc, you always go with CB and quantity

Best case scenario is he follows a Dorance Armstrong career trajectory. Rotational guy who steadily improves.

He's not going to be a starter or a difference maker.

He was a solid 3rd round pick. Gholston was a rotational versatile player for our defense. Let’s see what happens in his second season before we declare him a bust. Needs to get stronger and develop some pass rush moves but certainly can help the team next year.
After year 3 you are what you are so I would wait till then. Young with little NFL experience needs time and weight room reps and bulking up same goes for the center.
