DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Could the Dallas Cowboys be losing two of their top players before the 2022 season? According to 105.3 The Fan Cowboys insider Bobby Belt, it very well could be possible.

Lawrence, who played in just seven of the Cowboys 17 regular season games last season, is a $27 million cap hit in 2022, and Belt suggests that Dallas could be looking to either restructure or move on from that deal.

"I think just from talking to some people that this decision from them, they're looking at is as more of a choice," Belt said of the Cowboys stance on Lawrence. "Which direction do they want to go. So I think they're looking at it as, do we want to resign Randy Gregory, or do we want to restructure DeMarcus Lawrence. I don't think they're going to necessarily roll into next season with both guys. I think they view this as, you've got to pick one."

During his Friday visit with Shan & RJ, Belt suggested that the Cowboys could be looking to move on from both wideout Amari Cooper and defensive end, DeMarcus Lawrence.

"I think (Amari and Tank) are likely to be gone at this moment," said Belt. "I think Cooper and Lawrence both, I don't know if we are looking at June 1 for them or restructures. I think the betting favorite right now would be straight releases for both guys. And that would be $16 million freed up from Cooper, and $8 million freed up from DeMarcus Lawrence."

I can stomach trading Cooper...but will be pissed if we cut him

Way too good to release

Lawrence...meh

Oh we won't trade him, when was the last time this team traded a player? They will cut him and delude themselves with the idea that they can roll with what we have. We are not going to sign JuJu, not with the cap numbers we have for next year. Tank will be gone which will in turn make the run game worse but given his injury history it won't be much of a loss.

Nobody is taking that insane contract. It was terrible from the jump.

There is nothing wrong with his contract - released this year only counts $6 million or can be restructured to around $11 million. If Cooper agrees, it's a very easy contact to move once restructured. I'm still looking for a trade with the Jags - Cooper gets to go home and help Lawrence develop.

Only in Dallas do you award the title of "top player" according to the amount of money they make. D-Law stinks, and Cooper makes little impact when he doesn't/can't get the ball. We're going to be rebuilding sooner rather than later anyway, folks.

Good luck with Jerry getting anything for the player.

Lol ok. nobody rebuilds anymore. You can question tank being worth the money but saying he stinks? U should hang out in a barn for a few months and review game film.

I agree, but I'm not sure teams would give us anything to take on a $20 million a year receiver contract.

Hard to say at market values increase, heck Giants spent avg salary of 18 mill a year on Golladay. Right now if you asked which one I would want I take Cooper. A team with a boat load of cap space like a Jacksonville team very well could do it.
I would also add with Davante Adams becoming a FA along with some others Cooper contract is not going to look that much out of place. Adams is projecting around 25 mill a year deal

Yeah...you must be talking about the "little things" he does. We can get that from the bargain bin players Jerry is about to sign.

Two things about that:
  1. The Giants clearly regret the move, so it's a cautionary tale for the rest of the league
  2. New York didn't give up draft equity along with that big contract

Without draft pick compensation.

And Adams numbers are so much better overall.

I actually think that the sheer number of wide receivers available - and Adams especially - make it much less likely that a team would trade for Cooper. But hey, I'd love to be wrong about it and see the team get something, I just have no expectations that they could.

Adams is also targeted a lot more. Point is Cooper contract is not even tops in the NFL with Hopkins, Julio Jones and Keenan Allan all making more and with an new batch of FA at WR the market increases. add to that Adams is actually 2 years older than Cooper. All I am getting at is these price tags continue to rise and putting Cooper contract in context with other WR it is not really out of line.
