I still can’t believe the Eagles suckered the Colts and Dolphins out of First round picks. So glad that this is an average draft and the Eagles will be unable to get a quarterback. I don’t think people realize how bad the Eagles are. The Commanders will be our biggest threat next season with a healthy defensive line.

Not unless they make some big moves on offense. But I have no doubt that all three of our division rivals will bring in some costly FAs to try to improve. We're the only ones who will be looking in the dumpsters, believing it works because we found Kearse last offseason.

Funny how dumpster diving brought in some good free agents last season. Kearse, Hooker and Kazee sired up our safety room. Kearse should have been a pro bowler. The Giants and The Commanders broke the bank and produced top 12 draft positions.

Yes, but the teams playing in the Super Bowl added some high-caliber FAs and look where they are. I think you have to use all resources available to you: Draft well, strategically pick through the cheap FAs and strategically add a couple of high-caliber FAs.

Let's say we had signed Kevin Zeitler (3 years, $22 million) of Joe Thuney (5 years, $16 million) instead of continuing on with Connor Williams. It's possible that some of our offensive struggles would have gone away. Or maybe C Corey Linsley (5 years, $12.5 million) instead of relying on Biadasz.

We can keep up with the East because they are a) often drafting poorly and b) often making the wrong choices if FA, but when we get to the playoffs, the teams who use FA well are more talented than us.

Not as if you were awful before, but you've been making extra special sense all week.

Misery needs good company. Thanks for that.

For what it's worth, I wanted us to sign DT Dalvin Tomlinson (2 years, $22 million) because I knew it wasn't likely that we would get a starting-quality NT in the draft. He didn't have a bad season for the Vikings. I didn't expect us to sign him, though, because that's not what we do. Instead, we signed Carlos Watkins, a 3-4 DE, and put him at nose tackle, but hey, he only cost us $1.75 million for a season. I think Watkins was a decent rotational player, but having him start at NT was asking a lot.

Well, I've been beating that dead horse for years even though many defend the Jones' strategy. I just see no need to handicap yourself by having your mind made up that you are not going to entertain the idea of signing any high-priced FAs no matter what. But as I said, it is what it is.

Free agency in the NFL is a hard game to play. I don’t have an issue with the Cowboys building through the draft. Our problem is we over pay for average to good talent. We have two superstars in Parsons and Diggs. I have a feeling they will keep the good player, CeeDee and only one of Parsons/Diggs. Football is probably the only sport where you want hungry players. The Rams appear to be the exception to the rule.

You can't just build through the draft. It's impossible in the salary cap age because you lose good players before you can complete the process. You have to supplement and you need to do it with quality.

The Cowboys are not going to pay 11 million for a nose tackle. The Cowboys believe in athletic pass rushers. The only defensive free agent they will give any real money to is Gregory.

You have to be careful with free agency. The big free agent pickup for the 49ers Alexander and Ford were recently cut. They basically built their team through the draft. Only Jimmy G and Williams, left tackle was getting any money. You have to build through the draft if your going to pay Dak, Zeke, Cooper and DLaw top dollar.

Didn't say that they would. Absolutely never expected it to happen.

Only Jimmy G and Williams?

You absolutely have to build your team through the draft. You can't afford expensive FAs at every position. But you also absolutely have to make good use of FA, and that's not just diving into the dumpster to see what you can find.

The Bengals signed Trey Hendrickson for 4 years, $60 million. He anchored their defense with 14.5 sacks in the regular season and 2.5 in the postseason. They signed Awuzie to a three-year deal worth almost $22 million. Frankly, I wouldn't have after his years here, but that turned out to be a good decision. They doubled up there by signing CB Mike Hilton for four years, $24 million. Those moves supplemented what they did in the draft and helped them reach the Super Bowl.

If you don't want to hear people's opinions, why are you here? So you can tell people you don't want them to express themselves?

And, again, you're attaching opinions about a football team to someone's overall mental health. I don't think you're a miserable person because you don't like black licorice. Why do you think I'm a miserable person because I don't think this team can win a championship?
That’s totally fine to think we aren’t going to win a championship. That’s your right. I’m not questioning your mental health—just expressing my opinion that remaining optimistic is more enjoyable than being without hope. I have no problem hearing people’s opinions—that’s why we’re here. But the same doom and gloom from the same handful of posters, under the guise of “enlightened realist”, gets kinda old, ya know? Like I always like to say, we’re all just speculators here, and no matter what happens, seven billion Chinese just don’t give a ****!

The Bengals did a great job. They did what the Cowboys should have done after the 2016 season. The Cowboys just had to much money invested in Romo, Crawford, Dez, Smith and Frederick. The Joneses screwed us in 2017.

Why call them miserable? You're saying people who don't see it as you do are miserable. If their opinions, "get kinda old," then just skip over them. Don't engage. Believe me, there's plenty of people around here not worth arguing with on every side of every debate.

Sniping at others and calling them, "miserable," is just as annoying to some as the, "enlightened realists," are to you.

And it could have been a miss. Henderickson had only had one double-digit-sack season, the one before Cincy signed him. We know about Awuzie not being good enough here. The difference is that the Bengals identified two areas of need and went hard after fixing them. They didn't just say we'll throw a cheap body at the position and hope to better it in the draft. You've got to go get players like that to supplement.

Well their secondary improved greatly with Awuze and Apple. They paid Awuze good money as well. If you told me that a Super Bowl team had Awuze and Apple were their top cornerbacks, I wouldn’t believe you. Cincinnati also had lots of money under the cap. Paying Reader was a big move as well. Again the Cowboys could never do this because of all the money they spent on 6 players. The reality is the Bengals hit on two top 5 draft choices as well.
