Why cant they sign one of the good free agents exactly? Why couldnt they sign Cooper after being cut? Why give up a 3rd to pay more money then you would have to otherwise? Any team that offers 17m should easily get him so why trade a high pick instead especially when Godwin is also going to be cheaper with the same production?
We will see I think Godwin gets 22 or more per year even off his injury but who knows

In before someone says all teams do this.

It is a courtesy to the player. Trade him somewhere he wants to go or release him. If someone wants him, and I am guessing there will be interest, the negotiations are around him taking a pay cut with the new team. If he's willing to negotiate there, we will get a decent pick. If a team wants him but is willing to take his salary for 2022, the value is a bit lower.

Godwin is a better player who might reach 20m because even with Cooper cut he is likely the best option in this class (assuming Packers tag Adams of course).

Said just now at the Combine. A few teams are interested and if not, he'll get released.

As an aside, the Bills have given Cole Beasley permission to seek a trade
Releasing Cooper without getting any pick(s) would be taking one step forward and two backwards. Reports of a extension for Gallup with knee surgery is risky.

If we sign Gallup and than get nothing for Coop this team is dumb. Sign Ced and find someone else in the draft. Gallup won’t be ready by August.

Jerry : "Oh we will get a first round pick. I told them if nobody trades for him we will release him!!"

Ted DiBiase's resemblance to Robert Z'dar is frightening.

It would've helped alot had they not opened their mouth about releasing him weeks ago smh

Adams, Cooper, and Rodgers should all go to Denver. They have the cap space. That would make for an interesting AFC West.

Considering his contract I doubt they get more than the third round comp pick he will bring if they make a trade.

Bingo.

They just made an offer on Russell Wilson as well.

If they trade for Russ and sign Coop, they may easily get to the Super Bowl
Let’s not go crazy. Washington has way more issues then their quarterback. Are we really sure Russ wants to come to Washington and more importantly the draft capital will be sky high. The big issue though is there about four teams (Washington, Denver, Carolina, Pittsburgh) that would give up multiple first round picks for Wilson. I think when/if Watson is cleared of criminal charges, the Texans will get a boatload for him.

What's it going to be then, eh?

That is a great textbook description. Well done.

But this is not a "courtesy to the player".

This front office and always just announcing their plans. I hate this team.

$18 million if you believe he's a No. 1 receiver is not terrible, especially with no guaranteed money.
His base salary is 20 mil a year the next 3 years
A team could sign smith as a FA and have less cap hit for first couple years
There is a handful of good WR about to hit the FA market so why trade for cooper if you can just sign smith or Godwin and make a much more team friendly deal with a new contract
