Think decisions of Cooper/DLaw are tied to draft depth

As we have dug in the last few weeks looking at draft prospects, we are well aware this is a great year needing an Edge and a Wide Receiver, as depth might stretch through the first 3 rounds. The Cowboys brass knows this and it will be apart of their final decisions what to do with both players.

As I wrote several weeks ago, in Dane Bruglar's last top 100 posted in February, he had 17 Edge rushers and 14 Wide Receivers. That is tremendous depth and they should have a great opportunity to address both need areas.

Yes, let’s cut vets to draft cheaper replacements and continue to ignore other glaring holes on the roster. Sounds like a fantastic way to just stay relevant and keep costs down…what Jerry and Stephen have been doing for the better part of a decade now

We could probably find a guy in round 2 that could match DLaw's production in the last three years since they gave him the big contract. Cooper, probably not even in round one but some of money could go towards a better defense which is no where near playoff caliber.

The smart decision of moving on from Lawrence’s awful contract is precisely why I have been hocused in pass rushers in this draft. Throw in the very real possibility that they move on from Gregory as well and I have it as the top priority.

south carolina's kingsley enagbare has those long arms dan quinn likes.
purdue's david bell and nevada's romeo doubs are 2 wr's i like after the rd1 group.
smu's reggie roberson is another.
this is a good draft for de's and wr's.

100%......think there's a team out there willing to pay him more G-money than Stephen and honestly, I'm fine with letting both of them walk. Hell, sign a low cost hungry free agent and double dip the position with the first 4 picks.

Rumblings at the combine believe Gregory will resign with the Cowboys.

This seems way too drastic. I now believe one will return at a minimum. If Gregory goes elsewhere, they will keep DLaw.

I know but I don't see any option of DLaw returning. Just have a feeling Gregory people are going to ask for more money than Stephen's willing to, knowing they can get it on the open market. Of course, I could be wrong, just a feeling.

You know how they prioritized the position in the past, cannot see them completely gutting the position unless they sign another high end starter.

Why?

Why should we keep paying huge money for players who had a combined 9 sacks in 2021.

Yea I feel like we have to keep at least 1 if we want to remain competitive...then you have to hope you hit on a draft pick.

If we enter next season without Cooper and Tank I'm highly doubtful they'll be as good as they were last year.

check this out.......I thinking short term deal

Ben Goessling of The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports that DE Danielle Hunter's future with the Vikings is "something of an open question."
Hunter would have to switch to a standup rusher in Minnesota's new 3-4 scheme, and reportedly is close with former Vikings co-DC Andre Patterson, who moved to the Giants as their defensive line coach this offseason. Hunter has an $18 million roster bonus due on March 20th, and he carries a $26.1 million cap figure for 2022 while the Vikings are currently $16 million over the cap. He also played just seven games last year after tearing a pectoral muscle. He remains wildly productive, but this is a situation to monitor as the Vikings try to rebuild under new leadership.

Panthers GM Scott Fitterer said impending free agent OLB Haason Reddick is expected to test the open market.
The two sides have had conversations, but it sounds like the Panthers value him at one level while Reddick's camp believes he's worth more. Reddick inked a one-year, $6 million deal with Carolina last offseason as he was coming off a career-high 12.5 sacks with the Cardinals the year before. Reddick proved it wasn't a fluke and notched 11 more with the Panthers. A late-bloomer of sorts, the former No. 13 overall pick in 2017 is 27 years old and hopes to land a multi-year commitment this time around.

Hunter's a beast but imagine command similar money to what Tank was making...if we're trying to save doubt we make a splash like that. Don't think Reddick would be a good scheme fit...he'd get killed against the run.

2 good names, you could add Chandler Jones too. If they do lose Gregory, which I'm not expecting, I would expect a mid to high end starter signed on the same level.

Yes, they will take a little step back and have to rely on some younger players to step up.

Who says Gregory is going to cost 27 million against the cap, his number is being projected at 12, which is very reasonable.

I think it’s more than he’s worth. A career high 6 sacks doesn’t say $12 million a year for me.

Panthers got Reddick for $6 million. Give me that.
