Was it really tho? By next off-season $20 mil won’t be a top 10 paid WR either

He had a 90 catch season playing mostly with back ups in 2020 too. If Dak was healthy he would have hit triple digits. Amari has been pretty consistently good for 70-80 catches 1000 to 1100 yards for his career. Even in a somewhat down year, his numbers were that far off considering he played 15 games

I think it was a pure cost cutting measure. They wanted to get rid of a chunk of cap. It was probably him or Lawrence and they picked Lawrence.

Not me. Gregory has never come close to earning what he will cost. Even between multiple suspensions.
Id consider resigning Armstrong instead of Gregory. We only gave up 20 points once in the 6 games he started. He had a sack every 100 snaps, which is par for a starting DE. Armstrong will come in less than 8 figures per year. Im guessing probably a short term (2 years) deal for 8 per. Gives him some security and a chance to cash in soon

I think they would of gotten value if they traded him last season, but now teams know they need the cap money and would rather sign him to a cheaper deal. Browns were the only ones willing to take on that original, market level contract. Question is, I know they are going to draft a WR somewhere within the top 3 rds, do they sign a fa starter?

Look at it this way.......last season we FOUR legit starters/potential starters ( Lamb, Gallup, Coop and Wilson ). As it stands today, only Lamb is w/o question marks. Coop gone, Wilson likely gone and Gallup may not be available the first month or so start of the season. This is clearly why Schultz isn't walking IMO. I think we'll know more once/if Gallup is signed but I'm guessing they will def sign low-cost vet ( Beasley or Cobb ???? ) and target a few for 2nd or 3rd round.

My question........ is there any say top 15 WRs that we would def draft at 24 if he drops.

Yeah he’s consistently just a very good player. Would it be nice if he were paid 3-4 million less? Yeah of course, but it’s minimum overpay compared to what he does on the field.

Based on Jerry going public I assume there was some sort of petty difference that hurt the relationship.

I cannot believe we are going to give a guy coming off an ACL 10 mill a year. Ridiculous.
......coming off an ACL......let that sink in. And Noah Brown waiting in the wings.

He’s 27. Taking the 1 outlier season doesn’t make sense. Especially when his targets drastically declined due to no fault of his own

Which is the age where most athletes peak. There is a good reason to think we have seen the best of Amari Cooper.

Hes looking more and more appealing.

Because our Geniuses had already said he could be released and no teams were going into this offering a 3rd, when they know within a week he would be released. So start with the low ball offers.

Only in Dallas would they trade a #1 pick for a guy they would overpay and be happy to trade him for a bag of beans to save the cap hit!

Fans saying stupid things and annoying me. Do you actually think this was in any way a negotiation?
Read some descriptions instead of comparing this to a team in rebuild mode trading players they could just as easily keep or having 3-5 teams who want the player. There was “interest” by several teams who likely were willing to give up a 7th rounder and teams who wanted Dallas to pay part of Coop’s salary.

There was no negotiation. We didn’t want Cooper. We could not pay and never intended to pay his salary after first 2 years. The structure was intentional so there would never be dead money or guarantees after last season. Most teams wanted Cooper at less than 20 million. If he was released, they would have negotiated with the agent, and Cooper had all the power in where he would want to go.

We were lucky the Browns wanted him and didn’t trust they could get him if released. They offered the best deal. If no one would offer more than the Browns did, then where do you think negotiating came in? Jimmy Johnson couldn’t negotiate when there’s only one team giving him what the Browns were and his only choice was 1) accept the Browns offer; 2) cut Cooper for nothing in return; 3) Keep Cooper, restructure his contract, guaranteeing his salary next two years, losing Gregory, Kearse, Gallup, Wilson, Kazee, Neal, and have no money to fill out the roster or even pay draft picks without saying goodbye to DLaw as well.

This was NOT a negotiation. It was manna from Heaven. If you want to complain, complain that we ever gave him that ridiculous contract to begin with. We gambled on winning a SB in two years, and it didn’t happen.

no we are not first off

We save 16mil against the cap..umm yes better than nothing..i always thought the narrative is the FO takes too long holds on too long before letting and player go..they are getting ahead of his contract that helps cap room. he maybe a very solid 1 but hes not elite nor been great of late had little drive and passion to be any more then hes always been and now going top his 3rd team. Lamb and Gallup along with whatever else they come up with add Schultz is back will be fine..im more concerned about reestablish the OL and run game it will actually make the pass game better ..less options imo is better we can key one player per game and try and scheme him vs just saying oh well we have an embarrassment of riches at WR and still one and done in the payoffs. Far too many options like too large a menu that take forever choosing what top order, easier to target and scheme players , i mean its not leaving us without starers like in 18..lamb a first round pick and Gallups better then he was 3 years age. We wil eb fine stop whining and overreacting,. AC has not been special and not helped us get over the hump..

... accept change its part of life and part of sports.

If Dak failed with those weapons what provides you confidence he can make the next step with less weapons? Honest question because I see Cooper ability under utilized by coaches and Dak.
