Never been a fan of whining although as fans we do have the right to disagree with how things are being done at least perception wise. Like most fans, I only want the Cowboys to improve from last year and I have held that same opinion since 1960 although at 10 years old the understanding was different.
I do believe for the most part what we have seen this offseason is much like to many offseasons in the past where none of the adds were much if at all difference makers. This offseason appears much the same in that we have watched players we believe are vital to success and winning are gone. It is debatable that they were. It is also debatable that our adds this offseason are better than the ones that were jettison or bolted.
Cooper seems to be the most difficult player jettison. Was he good, sure, great, sometimes, top 10 WR, yes. Difficult to understand why he was let go and please do not give the money excuse because he could have easily been restructured. My opinion is there was something toxic either with the coaching staff with him or some other players. What I don't know. But now it has been 2 teams that apparently that were glad to see him go, at least from a coaching stand point. That should give everyone pause although I do believe that they could have possibly gotten more for him but not like the Hill or Adams case. Fans have to understand every situation is different like it or not.
The Gregory thing actually didn't bother me as much. He is a good player and could become great but it is 50-50 that he makes another great mistake and is gone for a year on suspension so covering your butt makes sense. Collins was again to me a no brainer, his time here was done especially when he showed to be no better than Steele. His fire seemed to have died some here, why, who knows but hopefully he gets the fire back and helps Cincy.
Will Fowler and Washington really be improvements over Gregory and Cooper? Hard to say but from the defense point, no one expect Quinn to come in and make the Cowboys a top 10 defense in one year yet he did so willing to wait and see about the defense. How will we use Washington remains to be seen but considering his cap number for 2022 is under $1 million, anything he gives us is a plus and maybe he turns out to be the guy Steelers thought he would be for us now.
The draft is where the Cowboys are pinning their hopes as it has been for a number of years now. We can whine about not signing change making free agents but to many fans of other teams tout how great their free agent hauls were only to lament them the next year. Tell me we haven't done the same. Hopefully the draft will help find another Parsons type player that improves the team be it offense or defense. The whining will stop if we win the division again but if we don't reach the Super Bowl, oh it will start again as it always does.
