MINUS:
- With Cooper, from what i suspect , the Cowboys apparently no longer view him as a top tier WR, and they did not think he had alpha male dog in him,.. i think that contract included an escape out - whether that was the team's choice or Cooper's, it was agreed upon by mutual parties.
There was baggage concerns about Cooper pre-trade, and apparently they surfaced to where Cowboys determined not to keep elite paying him
And the point that were no talks of "restructuring" ala DLaw, that tends to tell me that Cowboys wanted Cooper off this roster, off this team.
Sorry, but Cooper is not viewed in the same class as Hill and Adams. Cooper was panicked paid elite money - but he wasn't seen and viewed as Elite dominant
as Hill and Adams were ....
And baggage underachiever carries around the NFL , thus his market value and contract numbers did not equate with the rest of the NFL world...imo.
Schultz - Amazing how Stephen talks of not giving out big money to serviceable- average players but yet Schultz a serviceable player . .is not only getting the franchise tag, but very likely a long term deal.
- Collins- it’s either about alleged character baggage or medical concerns (per hip) ..or a coaching conflict (per Joe Philibin) .. or the combine of all three.
Lael passed his Cincy physical
- Did Philibin convince management that they already have the better player in Terrence Steele, that also comes without any off field concerns,
stronger work ethic, and a more reliable player. 10 million for supposedly one of the better RTs in NFL is actually a cap friendly deal.
But was other issues than freeing up cap space.
- Supposedly two of our better offensive players that in turn we got virtually nothing for.
Vander Esch - return of a serviceable -decent player .. but serviceable doesn't get us over the top. He's a JAG, not a difference maker.
A JAG that i once thought would be Sean Lee 2.0 .. especially after his phenom rookie year. Actually made a pro bowl.
PLUS
- Fowler : I don’t see a Fowler for Gregory as a swap equal in pure talent, but I do see that for the “ combine” value of cheap dollar price (basically vet vested minimum) and a rental one year deal.
- From a guy that had 11 and 8 sack seasons, Fowler is worth the high reward/low risk gamble.
Though far more talented, we traded a late round for Robert Quinn, got 11 sacks outta of him, if we’re very lucky we can hopefully have that 11 sack season
that Fowler once had with the Rams
- Best results- combine with Fowler with another suitable player, even if it means Fowler rotational/pass specialist
- Kearse - i'm amazed that they re-signed both their signal caller and best safety, and All pro punter for less than market value ... Kearse has solid grades
as tackler, blitzer and coverage - but yet did he have any demanding offers from the rest of the NFL ?.. 5 million per years sounds like just above
vested vet minimum and Stephen got Kearse's camp to bite.
- Anger - one of the more productive punters in entire NFL, he was a field position changer, especially when we're backed up dangerously deep in our own
territory. and we got him for 3 million per year.
