So "they're" saying that the Cowboys are having a horrible off season

They are literally as of today minus two starters the same team as they were last season. So this team is banking on those draft picks to put them over the top?

Not only that, Jerry is publicly announcing their draft intentions. You know, just in case anyone wasn’t sure. If you want a top offensive lineman, trade up past #24…

I get your arguments. However, the issue that everyone has right now is that the roster looks weaker and it seems like they are putting all of their eggs into the draft and bargain bin free agent shopping. To this point the offseason looks like a loss but there is still plenty of time to improve the roster. Areas that we all have concerns about:

1) LG - I think everyone can say that we are glad to see CW gone. However, we don't have a starter right now. What if we fail to get the guy we want in the draft or that guy is a bust. Maybe someone cuts someone after the draft that we can sign. Anyway, this is a huge hole and right now CW is better than anyone we have on the roster (not saying much). That was proved when they benched CW for McGovern and had to go back to CW because McGovern was awful.

2) WR - You may not like Cooper and maybe you thought he was a liability. However, I want to hear your argument on why you think our WR group is better without him. Especially when Jerry said that Gallup may not be able to go to start the season. I agree that Cooper's production didn't match his contract. Again, our WR position is not as good as it was at season's end. Trading Amari Cooper and losing Cedric Wilson and gaining James Washington is not a win.

3) RT - Having the luxury of having both Steele and Collins was great depth wise. Now we have no depth at tackle. Who starts at RT if Steele gets hurt? Again, another area of the team that was downgraded.

4) DE - I don't see Gregory as much of loss as some of the other people on this board. Personally, I would like Parsons at RDE more and i am not sure that Fowler is a downgrade from Gregory. Would still like to see this area improved but I don't feel like it is in as bad a shape as LG, RT, and WR.

The Cowboys may not win the Super Bowl, but they are already the 2022 NFL Salary Cap World Champions.

Of all the disaster moves the Cowboys have made in the last 25 years, this offseason thus far qualifies as 1 & 1A, but it is consistent w/what has been the year from the deepest parts of football hell.

Oh really let's take a look...
1. Resigned Defensive Coordinator Dan Quinn = Win
2. Reworked Lawrence's contract = Win
3. Franchised Schultz because they had to because of Jarwin's injury = Win
4. Got rid of a penalty feast of an O-line in Connor Williams = Win
5. Resigned a two solid safeties in Wilson and Kearse = Win
6. Traded Cooper who is injured a lot, disappears in road games, and they save cap space = Win
7. Let a headcase in Gregory walk who get more offside penalties than sacks =Win
8. Restructured both Dak Prescott and Zack Martin's contracts to save 22 million in cap space =Win
9. Let go of an aging kicker who misses a lot of chip shots = Win
So if this is a horrible off season then I'd love to see what a good offseason looks like because so far they've made a lot of changes for the better.
  • Resigning Lawrence was a loss. we extended his contract and over all he had gotten 7 years of gauranteed contract, for about 6 sacks average at best... it was time to move on from a overpaid run stopping DE...
  • Agreed that we got rid of Williams, but now there is a hole in there and the only option is McGovern, who got replaced by Williams. so we have a huge hole in the middle of the line with Biadasz and McGovern. people will say the draft, but you can't count on the draft, and there are too many other holes to fill
  • Getting rid of gregory the headache maybe a positive, but Fowler is no consolation prize. we have a need at DE (and center and OG)
  • Kicker needed to go, but right now I am not sure if we are better off.
  • Losing Cooper was not a positive. cooper for 14 games is better than Washington for 16 games,
you also forgot to mention we lost Wilson. a Key 3rd WR who produced a lot.

the purpose of the off season is to get better from previous year, so far its status quo or worse. we haven't gotten better from a team that got spanked in the playoffs

As long as you realize that we really didn't beat anyone last year so unless we draft well, much of the same will be expected for next year...and even if we draft well, they may not even be ready to contribute this year.

In Jerry's defense anyone should be able to look at our roster and know that LG has to be a 1st round target. We only have 3 guards on the roster. Zack Martin (RG), Connor McGovern, and Matt Farniok. McGovern was awful last year and I know absolutely nothing about Farniok.

I would love to trade up and get linderbaum. we can get a guard in the 2nd or 3rd rounds. but Linderbaum is like fredrick (not as powerful, but a master technician)

It’s been bad ever since the playoff loss to San Francisco. Most of us knew it was going to be a long, disappointing offseason and it has so far. There hasn’t been anything to get anyone excited or optimistic.

I want all you blind homers to not complain about lack of talent when Dak struggles and we have a middling record

You all will be first in line making excuses
I don’t have any doubt we have a net loss of talent
I don’t think even the most optimistic fan can say today we don’t have less talent
There is still opportunities to improve the talent but they have their limits
Replacing CW isn’t hard and replacing cooper is possible. But replacing both in the draft with equal talent is not very likely

The horrible off season is defined by holes at LG, RT, WR, DE and PK. And they attempted to get the DE and PK back.

This is only part of the off season and there are still some moves to be made in FA and the draft.

Why they are saying anything is because they are paid to say something about the Cowboys every day.

If they have a better season in 2022 than 2021, this off season will never be brought up again.

The season is like a movie and we are only part of the way in so it's too early to guess the ending. But, we know a certain number of people will brag about knowing what was going on in "The Sixth Sense" from the beginning.

Where? You listed 9 items and not one was us actually upgrading a position or adding a player. That's pretty telling, no? I suspect if we listed the top 9 offseason moves for most other teams there would be at least one player included that they added...

Why does offensive guard have to be a 1st round draft need gut anyone? Of the major impact positions in the NFL, guard isn’t one of ‘em.

Guy gets attacked for believing?

To those that don't believe why watch the games? Why cheer for this team? Why log on to Cowboyzone to chat with us real fans? Normally when people don't believe in something they stay away from people that do.

I believe I'm going to love this team no matter what. I believe I'm going to follow this team no matter what. I can't control what the FO does all I can control is my response. I'm not a Jones fan, but I am a Cowboys fan.
