Here we are, less than two weeks from R1 of the draft and it looks like the team has pigeon-holed itself into making the same mistake last year. It was no secret (and they've since admitted it) the team was set on drafting one of the two top corners last year (Surtain or Horn). They did nothing that offseason heading into the draft to address cornerback after letting starter Chidobe Awuzie walk in free agency thinking they'd have at least one of those two corner prospects to choose from. They got neither. Now, it worked out serendipitously for us by allowing the team to pivot and take Parsons, but that's not the point.

Fast forward to 2022, and the team has again telegraphed what we are likely planning to do at #24. We let starting OG Connor Williams walk and cut potential replacement OG/OT Lael Collins. We have incumbent Conner McGovern still, but the team may have soured on him and little else behind him.

They’ve effectively put out a flashing neon light that says ‘Drafting a Guard’. So if anyone else wants them, all they need to do is to trade up ahead of pick #24.

the fact they didn't bring in a single veteran free-agent at og says they must like connor mcgovern there...unless they find somebody better in the draft.
mcclay said about this draft class he sees alot of tackles that can play guard.
i dont think they are looking at pure guards but guys who can play multiple spots.
kenyon green play ot and og at a&m.
tyler smith and chris paul from tulsa are tackles that could slide inside to guard.
luke goedeke central michigan is another.
im fascinated to see how this plays out...not just at 24.
they ALWAYS fill their holes with f/a's prior to the draft.
the fact they didn't at og must mean they feel like they have already with connor mcgovern.
but that doesn't mean they won't address it.
it sounds like they are looking for a tackle who can play guard.
we'll know soon enough.
i think pick 24 is wide open.

That and they pretty much said they were going to be favoring OL

Would they trade up for an OG. Giving up a 3rd or even a 4th could be a bit of a pill to swallow

I think that teams like Tampa and KC certainly could given their needs. And I think both would be aggressive trying to stay in the Championship hunt. Unlike our complacent organization.

Did the Cowboys really pigeon hole themselves last year? Jason Lochenfora, CBS insider said a week before the draft Horne and Surtain would not make it to 10. I think this year Sauce and Stingley will be gone before 10 as well. Teams know what the Cowboys want. Everyone saw that mess against the 49ers. The Cowboys might need to replace 4 out 5 positions on the line after watching that whipping.

Jerrah actually been saying offensive line and offensive tackle unless Lamb and Parsons is there.

Of course.

The only way they won't take an OL at 24 is if a Lamb type falls to them.

The sad thing? OG is a position they could have solidified in FA and not had to pay a ton to do it. I posted an NFL.com article on the main board that ranks GMs. Their write up for Jerry was spot on. They draft well. But they have really no clue what to do beyond that.

Yes, they did.

They said as much post draft about their intentions leading into the draft.

They didn't bring in a veteran guard yet, because they might draft one in the 1st.

The teams that made a mistake last year were the ones that allowed them to take Parsons. If 2 guards and 2 qbs go before pick 24 there will be some outstanding players available at pick 24. The Cowboys will have their choice of good ones or could even trade back for an extra pick just like last year.
